In the Media and on Stage

Over the years, The Sudanese Thinker has received numerous mentions in various international media outlets and gotten me featured on stage and on TV. Below are some relevant links and videos.

  • USA Today: When bloggers are silenced, the world must speak for them
  • BBC: Bloggers condemn Sudan for arrest
  • The Huffington Post: Using New Media to Know the ‘Other’
  • More to be added soon.

The following are segments from my live TV appearances on Al Jazeera English.

Al Jazeera English: Sudan - Who Controls the Narrative?

Be sure to read the follow-up post I wrote after this appearance which clarifies my points: Elaborating My Stance on Sudan’s Simplistic Media Narrative and the Ongoing Violence.

Al Jazeera English: Mosqueteria & The Pimpsons

Co-hosting The Stream, live on Al Jazeera English.

And finally, below are some of the speeches and presentations I’ve given and which have been recorded and uploaded online.

Oslo Freedom Forum 2011: Dawn of a New Arab World

The following video features me at the Oslo Freedom Forum where I spoke for 7 minutes before my panel alongside Libyan blogger, Ghazi Gheblawi, Tunisian digital activist, Lina Ben Mhenni and Bahraini human rights activist, Maryam al-Khawaja. The panel was called “Dawn of a New Arab World” and it was introduced by the Egyptian Wael Ghonim and moderated by Philippa Thomas from BBC.

Freedom House: Islam In the Age of New Media

This is a panel presentation that was organized by Courtney Radsch at Freedom House and was inspired by the online audio seminar and virtual conference I put together, called The Future of Islam In the Age of New Media.

MIT Civic Media Session: “Representing Islam”

Since I wasn’t around in Boston anymore by the time of this event, I joined via Skype and spoke about the challenges of representing Islam today, and talked briefly about my project The Future of Islam In the Age of New Media.
