Keep Preaching Al-Ansari!

Abd Al-Hamid Al-Ansari is one of my favorite liberal Arab intellectuals. Believe it or not, he’s also the former Dean of Islamic Law at Qatar University.
Next time you hear people asking you “where are the moderates,” show them this video.
Don’t say they don’t exist. We’re everywhere, but we need to start “shouting” louder.
Enjoy and yaaay to liberalism.
The last bit about Germany is interesting too.

This is a fascinating post Drima. It is interesting to see the similarities of what he is preaching against and realize how much of it applies to the idiots in my country that get air time and push their pro-war-life-marriage-hate mongering propaganda. It is so frustrating being a moderate sometimes.
Thank you for that. Is is still living or did they get him?
hehe, my thoughts exactly… he’s gotta get himself killed. Which is kinda sad, really. One sane Muslim, and all you think is “hey, he’s gonna get himself killed”. Islam does have an image problem.
No he is still living, lol. There are many intellectual men like him in the Middle East. However they are outnumbered in the media by lunatics and uneducated preachers.
The vid’s three years old, and I can’t think of many Arabs saying anything that sensible since then. The need for Arab self-examination is urgent, yet Arabs will do everything to avoid it. There is so much pain involved. Who is going to be the first to flat-out claim that they were lied to and betrayed not only by their country’s leaders, but by their religious leaders, or even their parents?
I agree with Abd Al-Hamid Al-Ansari, including and specially with his statement about Germany.
He is spot on…
Solomon2,
There ARE many like this guy. They exist. Yes, they’re a minority but they’re not a tiny, tiny minority. They’re a BIG minority. Problem is, they’re not the minds and faces that produce high ratings for TV channels.
“DEATH TO AMERICA AND THE JEWS!!!”
Now THAT’S something that will make the ratings climb.
Head to memritv.org and scan through the nasty and beautiful. They have both archived and translated there.
