And America’s VPs Have Finally Been Selected

by Drima on August 31, 2008

Yup, so we have the “hey, look at me, I’m from a working, middle-class background” Biden and then we have the Alaskan Palin, and damn is this process starting to get entertaining again.

I gotta say, my very initial reaction to Palin’s selection was utter surprise, but when you think about it, this could be a super smart move. I can’t be sure at this time. If McCain wants to grab the disgruntled Hillary fans, then he just might have found a pretty good way to do so. Plus, Palin is a fresh and largely unknown face which is attracting a lot of media attention, and that can’t be bad for the McCain camp.

Ah, so much fun ahead, I predict.

Let’s get the debates started asap please.

I don’t think Palin will pull many of Hillary’s disgruntled supporters. But she probably will do well with moderate middle class women, especially working moms. We’ll see… I’m sure they will study the hell out of the voting patterns this time, with such an unusual group running :)

She will not be able to pull disgruntled Hillary supporters. many already feel insulted by this very transparent pick. they might be disgruntled and emotional but they are not dumb. Honestly, I think there is a media inflation of just how many of these irrational Hillary supporters really exist.

There’s just too much dirt and weirdness around Palin to appeal to….well, whoever they are trying to appeal to. Because I hear moans and confusion even from McCain supporters.

Honeslty, I think this pick was pulled out of thin air at the last minute to pull away from Obama’s thunder.

It’s only working so far by startling and shocking people, but I am very interested in seeing how this will unfold. This Palin woman is…interesting…

I am in the hopes Hillary would rip this pick a new one. :) If I was Hillary I’d be insulted (how dare this virtual inexperienced nobody be one step away from the white house while I had to work my ass off??!) I’d even, out of bitterness would try to rally by supporters after Obama even harder….

This election is like a bad Twilight Zone episode and I can’t stop being entertained. Enough LOL’s and WTF’s to go around for the rest of my life.

Meanwhile, I am also looking into immigration to the land down under.

“these irrational Hillary supporters”

Why are Hillary supporters “irrational”?

4 Dalu 09.01.08 at 1:39 pm

That’s how the media is playing them out as. And that’s what the McCain campaign ultimately sees them as based on the recent VP pick, suggesting that all those Hillary supporters really wanted was a woman candidate regardless of experience or views. The recent VP pick is to cater to those who swore that they’d rather vote for McCain instead of Obama (even though from what I managed to catch, Hillary and Obama really don’t differ all that much…unless I missed something…so voting for McCain instead makes no sense….)

I guess I should have put words like “disgruntled” and “irrational” in quotations. But I thought everyone was on the same page as I was. :P

Honestly, I was rooting for Hillary before I deserted to get into the Obama-mania. The woman was amazing and I hope she runs again.

Also Plain will appeal to those that did not think Hillary shared in their values but were “moderate” enough to want a woman in a high office. Also she will make McCain look “progressive” (and in touch with the modern world, since we all know his older than dirt and so are his “values”). He voted largely “anti-women” in the past. Or so the “angry feminists” keep saying.

Or I am possibly just talking out of my ass.

“suggesting that all those Hillary supporters really wanted was a woman candidate regardless of experience or views.”

I am thinking they wanted a woman candidate, preferably with experience.

“Hillary and Obama really don’t differ all that much…unless I missed something”

You might have. Hillary has much more experience than Obama plus she actually told people what she stands for and doesn’t change her positions every week.

She was also in favour of stabilising Iraq rather than remove the Americans that stand between Shiites and Sunnis and see what happens (I do remember what happened the last time Iraq was without a force between the two).

AB - Clinton is also for socialism in the US of A. Obama is for that as well, but only when talking to some people.

The most important issue for these clowns should be economics and doctrine shift (or lack thereof).

America is standing at an important crossroads - namely, it finally has an opportunity to take initiative again. In the next four years, America has some monumental decisions to make.

What to do about the new Cold War?
How to take advantage of European and Japanese stagnation (and in some cases stagflation) to remove the risks to American economic dominance? What should America’s long-term energy strategy be?
What solution can be found for the two unstable and barbaric regimes with nukes/realizable nuclear aspirations - Pakistan and Iran? Should USA continue to feed India nukes and hope it’ll hold as a check on its psychotic neighbor?
How to restructure the American economic system, if at all, to soften the next crash?

And all of the above ties in to the most important question… what is the USA and what is the nature of its relationships with the rest of the world? Because it seems to me that both these issues are what everyone is skirting around in this political campaign.

Obama cleverly used these winds of change to fill his sails… but he sails to no destination.

I prefer the woman who is clear about her political positions regardless of to whom she speaks.

Palin’s against sex education. And boom! The result? Her own teenage daughter getting pregnant. The irony of it all. I feel like she belongs in Malaysia, what with her anti sex education stand. Huhuhu.

“Palin’s against sex education. And boom! The result? Her own teenage daughter getting pregnant.”

How do you know Palin’s daughter getting pregnant is the result of Palin’s stand against sex education?

Didn’t her daughter take sex education at school?

I found it most interesting that within a day of knowing about Palin her liberal opponents had already accused her youngest child (who was born with Down syndrome) of being her daughter’s illegitimate child, a claim that was only retracted when it turned out that her daughter was actually pregnant at the moment (with, obviously, a different child).

It took _a day_ for liberals to focus on Palin’s handicapped youngest child and her pregnant daughter and to make fun of her. Who picks on handicapped children? I thought it was unbelievable.

Even Obama distanced himself from his supporters.

McCain managed to show liberals for what they are. It was surprising to see how America would react to a teenage pregnancy. Republicans are taking it calmly and respect that Palin’s daughter didn’t abort, and Democrats are going nuts over it.

Personally, if Palin’s daughter marries her boyfriend and they were planning to do so anyway, I don’t have a problem with the situation. 17 is not that young and the usual problem with teenage pregnancy is not age but the problems that result from young age.

When I was in school I had a friend who had a brother with Down syndrome, and I certainly respect any family who have to deal with such a situation (and do).

It is funny how some people are bent on their own self-destruction. This Palin character is not a friend to Israel and Evangelicals will never be. Jews for Jesus will roll full steam ahead to the gates of Jerusalem until all Jews proclaim Jesus as their lord and savior.

The balancing act is only going to get trickier. The neo-cons will continue to outsmart themselves. If the U.S. goes to Iran and has to continue to borrow from China who wins in this scenario. Think about it. Do not play right into Bin Ladens’ hands. He gets to kill two birds with one stone.

Salaam

“This Palin character is not a friend to Israel and Evangelicals will never be.”

The Jewish people never had many friends.

The evangelicals want to convert everyone, that’s true.

But in the current climate, that’s better than what the others want to do.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”

In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it “God’s will.”

yep yep. Palin is AGAINST sex education. And seeing as she’s the governor of alaska, im thinking.. maybe sex education there is not really sex education but more of a “if u have sex before marriage, u’ll go to hell” type of thing. OBVIOUSLY it didn’t work on her daughter now, did it?
