King Abdullah of Jordan Was Nearby

He was just a click away from here. The man actually left a comment on a blog post by Naseem of the popular Jordanian blog, the Black Iris, which I’ve got listed in my sidebar. I can only imagine how excited Naseem was when he received a phone call verifying the comment’s authenticity. This sort of gets me a little excited too. King Abdullah’s comment is just below mine, which means he very, very probably read what I said about him. Heck, he definitely read it! If anything, this whole incident has only increased my respect for the king. Plus, now Jordanian bloggers can be comforted by the fact that he supports them.

Yaaay to blogs and people-powered new media! :)

Yes Drima…it is I…King Abdullah. I am here with my friend, Queen Elizabeth and I believe Prince Faud will be dropping in shortly.

Just wanted to let you know we all think Ponder is retarded.

    Very funny Ponder.

“Just wanted to let you know we all think Ponder is retarded.”

Finally an Englishman and Arab I can fully agree with.

    Wow.

    Just wow.

Drima, I have mentioned before how much I respect King Abdullah of Jordan. To learn that he actually reads blogs just confirms my view that he is a capable leader.

(Yes, Jordan is no democracy. But democracy is not inherently good. It’s a tool that can be used for good more effectively than it can be used for evil. But it can be abused. A good monarch makes sure democracy is used only for good.)

I’m not that surprised he does, since even Queen Rania herself has a YouTube channel:

She also mentioned Ikbis and iToot, the Jordanian websites, before in an interview. iToot aggregates many blogs from the Arab world including mine and the Black-Iris. King Abdullah might have found Naseem’s blog from there.

“since even Queen Rania herself has a YouTube channel”

I read that as “has herself a YouTube channel” and for a moment thought that you have finally become a true southerner. :-)

” … To learn that he actually reads blogs just confirms my view that he is a capable leader.”

Isn’t this a self-congratulatory comment? Capable leader because he reads blogs? Wow…

Looks like blogging has become a measuring rod of rulership and country management. Excellent.

I always thought that the king was capable enough.. He followed his father footsteps, learned from them, Oxford educated, speak english eloquently better than President Bush by million of folds. Bush needs to read blogs maybe he will be respected by Andrew.

    Howie,
I did not ask a question to be answered. It was just an observation of stupid thing people say when they take themselves too seriously. Your response has a big weight to it, I did not bother opening it. Thanks for helping Andrew. Are you his month piece or his tail end?

    Oh boy, Jamie…

Now you have really done it in the “taking themselves too seriously” department…

Hope you find your way out again.

    AB-

Did you find Jamie overly sensitive?

    Hmmm?

    Howie,

    I think Jamie flipped.
