War Looms Over Sudan Again

I haven’t blogged much about the small events that took place in Southern Sudan over the past few months but today, I need to. Things are piling up badly.

Abyei, that oil rich region in the North-South border, is arguably one of the most sticky issues that threatens the CPA and could possibly draw the country back to the cycles of war!

Today, Northern troops entered Abyei after the NCP expressed their objection to the appointment of an SPLM Administrator for Abyei.

… Recently, SPLA soldiers were reportedly attacked by heavily armed Misseriya gunmen and fingers are being pointed at the NCP in Khartoum for arming them. Now the northern army is building up in Abyei and who knows what will happen tomorrow!

The Misseriya are a nomadic tribe regarded as Arabs by Southern Sudanese in case you’re wondering.

The Comprehensive Peace Agreement must not collapse. Let’s hope the profits of oil are too sweet for both sides to lose. Otherwise it’s going to be a major disaster bigger than Darfur.
Sigh!

bad news. i do not understand why they immediately have to threaten with troops. cant you just use words saying that you disagree with an appointment? cant you make life miserable to the appointed person in a different way then threatening civillians who happen to live in that area?
