Volunteers for Darfur-Awareness

Dear readers familiar with Darfur,
anybody interested in posting once in a while over at Darfur-Awareness? A reader emailed me in today expressing disappoint over the lack of updates there. She’s right and I take full responsibility for that. I’ve gotten awfully busy lately and the frequency of posts is far from enough. I can hardly keep up with my online responsibilities for now thanks to being a final semester student and the book I’m writing.
Any volunteers? Please drop me an email and let me know if you’re willing to kindly help.

Frankly, I don’t want to post there.
They seem to be equating the situation in Darfur with “Palestine”, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
But there is no genocide going on in either of those places.
A few hundred terrorists dying while trying to murder Jews is simply not the same as tens of thousands of victims of an oppressive and intolerant government.
The four places have one thing in common, which is that the murderers are Arabs. But that doesn’t seem to be their point.
I cannot in good conscience support a site that accuses Israel and the US of the same crimes it accuses Sudan of. I am sick and tired of lies about Jews and Americans and I know the consequences of those lies.
Darfur is important, very important. But protecting Jews from genocide (and hence fight those lies that lead to it) is equally important.
And I also won’t pretend that the “resistance” in Iraq, i.e. those murderers who fight civilians, the Iraqi government, and coalition forces, are somehow comparable to the Darfurians. And nether will I pretend that the Taliban and Al-Qaeda are the victims of American aggression against Afghanis. It was Arabs who came to Afghanistan to help the Taliban gain power.
But the site’s motto and their choice of examples implies the opposite.
In “Palestine” it is not “Palestinians” who have to fear a genocide, but Jews. Israel has won all the wars and the “Palestinians” still exist. If the same had happened in Darfur, between Sudan and Darfurians, Darfur wouldn’t have a problem and wouldn’t be a problem.
On the other hand, I do support their idea that Darfur should at least matter as much as “Palestinians”, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
I just disagree that they are comparable in the way they imply. And I believe that Darfur is a lot more important than “Palestinians” are.
(The importance of a man’s destiny to me depends on the choices of that man. “Palestinians” have chosen to fight a war with Israel. That was a bad choice. But it was their choice.)
Nobody is trying to draw comparisons. All we’re implying is that Darfur deserves more media attention. It hardly gets any compared to Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s as simple as that.
Drima, I understand that.
But the image it creates is different. I wouldn’t feel comfortable posting there, given the motto.
It says “Iraqis”, “Palestinians”, and “Afghanis”, therefor implying that they are victims like the Darfurians. If it said “Iraq”, “Israel” (or even “Palestine”), and “Afghanistan”, it would be more clear that you are comparing places, not people.
Do you think I’m happy that the world focuses on Israel rather than Darfur? It’s ridiculous.
Drima, I’ll help out if you’ll have me. I have also been a bit slack on Darfur posting…I just gave into frustration or something like that. I’m still reading though. Let me know if you still need volunteers!
PS, if only we still had Ingrid!
