WTF News of the Moment: Republicans for Obama?!

Yes, believe it!
This race is getting so much more interesting with every passing minute. A new website called Republicans for Obama has popped up. And no, it’s not fake. It’s real and was even featured on Time!
On a related note Susan Eisenhower, Dwight D. Eisenhower’s grand daughter has a super interesting article in the Washington Post. She’s a self-proclaimed Elephant - a lifelong one - who’s backing Obama! Amazing!
I am watching the Obama phenomenon with great fascination. Sure, he’s vague when it comes to foreign policy but his appeal is so strong and his speeches so inspirational and uplifting that they’ve attracted the seemingly impossible. (His speeches are written by a 26 year old in case you didn’t know). The great discontent felt by some Elephant voters towards their party also made the shift easier.
Meanwhile, many conservatives are sad that Rudy quit the race and are now busy dissing McCain. (what’s so wrong with McCain that makes him deserve all this bashing?)
Also over at Digg, some are saying that Elephants who support Obama are not true Elephants. Barbara Gordon, at Republicans for Obama, responded to the accusations on the website’s blog and explained her reasons for supporting Obama. It’s one hell of a super unique perspective I must say! Her stance is summed up in these two sentences:
We didn’t leave the party behind. The party left us.
At the end of the day, it’s about what issues voters are concerned with most. We could very well be witnessing history in the making!

I think McCain’s insistance on prolonging the Iraq occupation into a long term nation-building project makes him popular with the finish-the-fight crowd, but unpopular with those who are demoralized about the Iraq war.
That’s the biggest point I think, since I don’t think McCain has any other deadly idiosyncracies like Huckabee’s desire to turn American law to the word of Yahweh’s.
I like McCain. And I like Obama too. Question is I couldn’t manage to find some precise info about their stance towards Sudan. So I can’t make up my mind yet.
I’d like someone who’ll bomb the shit outta the Taliban and be tough in this fight without using torture. Someone who realizes it’s not just about bombs but about promoting liberalism and winning the battle for hearts and minds. Someone who’ll support the peace agreement in Sudan and push for an end to Darfur’s crisis in a constructive manner. Someone who’ll push for democracy but won’t be hypocritical about it.
As a Sudanese, foreign policy, (towards the region and Sudan), is my number one issue.
McCain’s problems are mostly domestic. He’s 90% Libertarian (which is what I am) but that 10% that’s lacking bugs the hell out of me. He’s fine on foreign policy.
At the end of the day, it’s about what issues voters are concerned with most. We could very well be witnessing history in the making!
Don’t get yourself too excited there, Drima, it’s just backlash against the neocons
I’ve been bitching about neocons for years. And that’s why there has been so much talk amongst the Republican candidates about which of them is the *true* Reagan disciple. Republicans want that. Some of them have decided that Obama is more like Reagan than any of the Republican candidates.
I may vote for Obama myself, I haven’t decided yet. He makes me nervous, but it wouldn’t be the first time I voted fro a Democrat for President. I voted for Clinton in 92.
I think Obama’s Sudan adviser is Samantha Power. I don’t agree with many of her positions (she has a Mearsheimerish position on lobbying for Jewish issues that makes me very uneasy about some of her positions), but her book on modern genocide and ethnic cleansing was one of the better books on the subject that I have read.
After reading this-http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/ksgnews/KSGInsight/power.html-again, though, I’m not sure if it is as close to Mearsheimer and Walt as some blogs are suggesting. She suggests an Israeli influence in battle tactics, but I don’t see the hysterical Jewish lobby accusation that Mearsheimer and Walt make.
Craig,
“McCain’s problems are mostly domestic”
Hehehe, and I can’t be bothered since I don’t live in America.
“Don’t get yourself too excited there, Drima, it’s just backlash against the neocons :P”
Even *you* might vote for Obama dude. Iowa was a historic moment… “they said this day will never come”… I watched his speeches like ten times or something. So yeah, after seeing all this stuff happening lately I think he has a good chance of winning.
A, thanks for that piece of info. Digging up articles on that Samantha right now.
I need to make up my mind.
Oh..Bummah! :/
