Bin Laden’s Son Wants To Be a Peace Activist

Omar — one of bin Laden’s 19 children — raised a tabloid storm last year when he married a 52-year-old British woman, Jane Felix-Browne, who took the name Zaina Alsabah.
… Omar lived with the al-Qaida leader in Sudan, then moved with him to Afghanistan in 1996.
There, Omar says he trained at an al-Qaida camp but in 2000 he decided there must be another way and he left his father, returning to his homeland of Saudi Arabia.
“I don’t want to be in that situation to just fight. I like to find another way and this other way may be like we do now, talking,” he said in English.
Erm, you mean dialogue. But it’s okay, doesn’t matter. So far so good.
… Omar doesn’t criticize his father and says Osama bin Laden is just trying to defend the Islamic world.
Raaaight!
… Omar is convinced a truce between the West and al-Qaida is possible.
Oh yeah? Good luck!

The man’s so blind to his father’s organization and actions, it’s somewhat incredible in its own way. Of course, how much of that is blindness and how much he has justified to himself as “defending Islam” is open to debate.
He may support dialogue, but I get the impression that he supports it mainly to give AQ airs of legitimacy as a representative of the Muslim world. It may be a step up from total nihilism, but it changes little. If anything, it just opens the avenue to gullible people supporting dialogue with him as a kind of AQ diplomat, and that will sure improve matters, eh?
I assume that he means by dialogue the same that Hamas and the PLO mean by “dialogue”.
If he wants to be a peace activist he could help to undo some of the damage his father did.
I suggest he move to the US or Iraq and help the families affected by 911 or any of the mosque attacks.
Most “peace activists” are more worried about helping protect terrorist weapons smugglers than about the victims.
What’s with the braids? (yes, braids, not locks, Article Writer.)But then again if my father was Bin Laden I would do whatever I can to look less like him, tacky looking braids and all.
52 year old wifey? Zaina Alsabah? Hahaha
lol @ the rest of the article. But at least he is trying…or something close.
They should make a reality show on this family. I vote “The Osama bunch” for a title. I would totally watch it.
He looks too much like a local gas station guy that, in retrospect, should totally be prosecuted for sexual harassment (committed on minors)… who mysteriously disappeared (he disappeared, not the minors). I used to totally have a crush on him too.
In my defense, his stereotypical gold necklace and hairy chest were like aphrodisiacs. He didn’t have an accent but he always talked in on while using really stupid pick up lines! *sigh* (knowing damn well that we dug that shit, he never had a shortage of random female customers who just randomly floated around the registers)
To be sixteen again.
*sigh*
Haha I am sorry, i can’t offer constructive and intellectual comments.
My first meme…
Stewart Kirkpatrick has tagged me in the growing my Week/month in media meme. So, here goes: What I’ve read Almost every day, depending on stock of local news stand: The Citizen - typical headline “Where is your sense, Atem Mabior?”;……
[…] Oh! Major digression time! This has nothing particular to do with Sudan, but I did find it on a Sudanese blog. Bin Laden’s son wants to be a peace activist. […]
