And Sudan Turns 52!

Yup! This post was actually supposed to be published two days ago but hey it’s never too late. Kizzie makes a depressingly excellent observation:

1/1/2008- Sudan turns 52.

We should also celebrate the fact that since 1956, Sudan was at peace for about 11 years!

    Drima,

    Sudan isn’t independent.

    What happened was that England and Egypt handed over rule over many peoples to one of the tribes in Sudan. Bashir and his folk are independent, most of Sudan is not.

    I do not believe that the Christians of southern Sudan or the people in Darfur or even the Nubians feel “independent”. And I am sure that many of them, if not perhaps the majority, very much preferred English rule.
