More Idiotic Fatwas

by Drima on November 16, 2007

Grrrr!

CAIRO, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Egypt’s highest authority on Islamic law said on Thursday that drivers cannot be blamed for killing people who stand in front of their vehicles, just days after a police van ran over a woman who tried to stop it.

Dar al-Iftaa, the government agency which issues around 1,000 fatwas a day, denies its rulings are influenced by politics but opponents said the statement could have been issued to defuse criticism of the government linked to Sunday’s death.

And the manipulation of Islam for political purposes continues. Emoodz is so right.

… without the need of referring to scientists or telescopes, who even needs lawyers and judges, courts and laws, when we have muftis and mullas that will have a say –in the name of god- in anything and everything they know and do no know about.

Clowns.

Sounds like they’re going back to the days that my grandpa lived there and people would get hit and killed and helpful bystanders would just cover them up with newspaper or cloth of some kind.

The Great Holy Mufti Drima has issued a fatwa decreeing that most if not all fatwas issued by Egypt’s Dar al-Iftaa are idiotic. Wait he has just changed his mind and is now issuing a completely new fatwa updating the previous fatwa and decreeing that all those who listen to Dar al-Iftaa’s fatwas will suffer from constipation for at least two weeks.

“decreeing that all those who listen to Dar al-Iftaa’s fatwas will suffer from constipation for at least two weeks.”

And if they don’t, they must be punished.

This is what happens when you do not sever between religion and science. What makes me sad is that Islam is losing its spiritual aspect, and it is becoming more of a political movement Drima. Not a lot of people notice this.

“What makes me sad is that Islam is losing its spiritual aspect, and it is becoming more of a political movement Drima.”

If you ask me, I’d say its true essence and meaning is getting buried under a big pile of man-made garbage.

- from Mahmood’s Den… a post about the breast-feeding fatwa, I think.

but seriously, from the original post, the story was about a woman clinging to a police car (to beg mercy for her sister) apparently the cops drove over her.
That may or may not - depending on circumstance and law - be punishable for the policeman, but [and this is where the tape snaps for me] seeking _religious_ justification for police work, it’s just …. a faswa. Since when is police work a religious act ?
I mean there are atheist policemen out there.

“its true essence and meaning is getting buried under a big pile of man-made garbage.” hear hear.

I’m afraid, as long as *some* Muslims make a religious issue out of _everything_ we’re yet to see the last.
