The “Big” 21

… wasn’t big at all.

Imagine forgetting about your own birthday! I kid you not. If my friends didn’t start text messaging me their consecutive wishes last night after 12.30am, I would have most probably still remained unaware until the end of the day.

Twenty one.

Since I’m at my super boring “in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the jungle” university campus, I did nothing except the usual on a slow but hectic Saturday like this one: study, finish up assignments, laundry, continue researching for my final year project, watch Blood In Blood Out and study some more.

If I were back in the city, it would have been FUN. All the gangs of friends are back there. We would have at least, at least, gone for some shisha (hookah) and hit the clubs after that.

Twenty freaking one.

I know many of you are going to want to smack me on my head with a frying pan for saying this, but maaaaaaaan, I feel so old. :(

Bleh, I think me needs a short nap. Too grumpy right now. Today is weird, similarly like this very day one year ago.

Happy Birthday, Drima! 21 is the last major one that is fun, so enjoy yourself :)

    Happy Birthday anyway!

My theory is that 23 is the best age. After that, you stop growing up and start ageing.

    Happy Birthday Drima!!

21 is old. On the other hand. 40 (which I will be in a mere three years) is starting to look young :) LOL

    It’s all a question of perspective …

Have fun man, and have a great year!

There are still many other milestone birthdays to look forward to. 25, 30, 33, 40, 50, 65. :P

I turn 21 in November. I started feeling old at 16. So yea. I can’t wait to finally be “legal” :p

    Happy birthday, old man! ;)

And hey… s’just a number. In Raccoon years, you’re friggin’ ancient. In, say, Olive years, you’re barely born :)

Here’s to a thousand more of your birthdays!

    Drima mabrook :D
I know what you’re saying. Personally I also never seemed to find any relation between the number mentioned on my birthdays and my mental state - but I hope you will have many, many happy returns of this day :D

Happy birthday, dear Drima! And thank you for sharing “you” these past few years.
I understand the feelings you had last year at this time. I have two sons, just a little older than you, who felt it too (my youngest will be 23 in November). The happy magic of childhood is sad to say goodbye to, but life is so fascinating that a guy like you will never be bored. And a part of that magic, called hope, will always be a part of you. That’s what makes you “The Dreamer.”

It’s also understandable how you could miss remembering it at this age. You’re an adult now with tons of stuff on his mind!

    Hey Drima…

You are a good man. Wishing you a very happy birthday.

Take it from somebody who is getting well up there…

Certain age things are unavoidable…like weird diseases. But with a bit of luck and you take care of yourself…you can feel good and productive for years.

My dad took up downhill skiing at age 57 and reached an expert level into his 70’s. In his 80’s he still bowls and plays raquetball daily.

Not only your body…but you have to keep your mind fresh and challenged. I just went back to college. In the past two years I have studied Madarin and Spanish…I still fish, surf, lift weights, travel, hike and all kinds of stuff.

Again…part luck and then you have to decide about lifestyle…most head for the couch and also switch off their brains. And when I say switch off their brains…I mean they will lock into a way of thinking and that’s it…that’s the truth and I will not rechallenge myself…only look for information that will support what I believe or want to believe.

Change, growth, progress=pain. Most opt out.

    Happy B-day and good luck

    Howie

Hey Drima many happy returns of the day, don’t worry about 21 there’s loads more fun to come, take it from someone who’s pushing 30… :-P

Too bad you weren’t in KL - I have an idea where you might have been instead, and I can only commiserate!

If we ever get around to meeting then teh tarik’s on me… ;-)
