Those stories are simply symptoms of a society that desires to be western, but doesn’t know what it means to be western. I’ve discussed this with many Japanese friends, and they still tend to shy away from really accepting that.
In many ways, this is what besets most of the non-western world: they want to be like the west, thinking that western individuality is founded on individual freedom, when it is really founded on the anxiety of being responsible for a personal identity.
I post my email with every post. You should be able to see it on your owner’s edit page. I don’t mind corresponding with you, but I don’t care for it to be published, please, as there are way too many wackies out there, not to mention spammers.
The kid who murdered his own mother is… insane is the one word that comes to my mind. He claims to have killed his mother as a… radical act for pacifism, of all things.
But from reading the article linked to regarding the murder, I tend to agree with Finnpundit. The situation appears to be that of total individualism without regards for society’s laws. Where’s the personal responsibility for one’s actions, though?
