Attention: Sandmonkey On Podcast

You can listen to him right here in an interview on why he stopped blogging. Pretty interesting stuff. His blog was the most straight forward talking blog in all of the Middle East and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He’ll be missed.

UPDATE: WARNING, he says the the phrase “you know” more than a million times!

Although I’m sure he has his own reasons for deciding to stop blogging, it still saddens me that people would apply all measures to silence the voice of truth, granted that the truth is subjective, why can’t they just let those voices grow?

P2H, for those whose rule revelves solely around a few individuals in the entire country, independent thought of any kind is a threat.

I’ll listen to this just as soon as I get to a decent internet connection. Sandmonkey’s blog will be sorely missed by your truly. His blog taught me a great deal, and gave a chance to get to know, and argue with, many interesting people.

    *salutes*

RK, you’re right but it just makes me feel so helpless. What’s the point in taking any steps forward when you are anticipating the day you’ll get knocked down? You build hope and expectations just to have them crash and burn and it just becomes really draining… *sigh

P2H, they don’t win by pushing you back, or holding you down. They win when you stop hoping. When you let go of your dreams and become just another cog in their machine.

If enough people wake up, you win. If you can’t apply pressure from within, apply it from without. The government should fear its people, not laugh at it.

Keep hope, and spread the word. Because otherwise “revolution” will just mean a different kind of dictatorship.

“he says the the phrase “you know” more than a million times!” yeah, I know..

P2H, don’t worry, he’s a real entertainer. He’ll be back one way or the other. He’s a smart monkey.

The podcast was exceptional and it really helps you to get to know him and why he thinks the way he does better.

I think you’re right Halalhippie. He’ll be back soon.

I’d say the 3 most influential bloggers for me in the last year were BigPharaoh, Sandmonkey & Ali Eteraz. I’m glad I discovered them all!

As so often seems to be the case …

Going to listen to the podcast now :)

    NC,

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. If the French can have a working revolution then so can anyone. ;-)

    RK,

Anyone can - the question is whether or not they will. The factor which stops a revolution from turning into the dictatorship it replaces is, essentially, the resolve of the new ruler not to be swayed by the temptations of absolute power, and not to fear the reprisals of potential opponents (which would cause the new ruler to pull in the reins). Although the French (and others) did, in fact, manage this in the long run, the vast majority of countries that undergo “revolution”, tend simply to end up with a different dictator. The ’successful’ revolution (successful for the people, rather than for the revolutionaries alone) seems to be the exception, rather than the rule.

By the way, I’m having trouble downloading the podcast - has anyone else experienced difficulties?

    NC,

I had, but waiting long enough solved the problem for me.. It took some minutes even after it said it was finished in the first place. Maybe this works for you, too?

Thanks a lot Drima for posting it!
