DC Anti-Mubarak Demo on Monday
Oh yeah, Sandmonkey has more info! America should really stop supporting dictators like this guy. But wait, if he goes, then the MB will most probably take over. Oh yeah, and a lovely war will start with Israel. Again. Sigh! Good luck Egypt. You’re going to need it. At least we Sudanese have had our taste of an MB style government. Guess what? We didn’t like it very much.

Sudanese in Israel Hope They Have Found a Home
A Shamarat member commented the following:
This saddens me so much…. Where is this Arab brotherly community we are so proud to brag about? Where is this compassion, us being civil, Muslims, where the hell is that? Huh yet we take the time to come up with elaborate schemes of the Jews & Americans trying to colonize Sudan and it’s oil… while those same Jews we Love to despise are doing more than our ‘Islamic’ Government Will or Can do… what a shame
Sad but unfortunately true! And you know what’s even better? A few days ago I read an article in the Sudanese Arabic newspaper Al-Rayaam that had a truly hilarious title. Rough translation… “The Jewnization of Sudanese Refugees in Israel“. Crap, is Jewnization even a word? Maybe “piggy apization” is a better term.

Flying While Muslim: Racial Profiling Post-9/11
I just got this in my inbox. It’s interesting but the fact that Raed Jarrar is featured in it talking about his notorious T-shirt incident isn’t good because I don’t believe that counts as racial profiling. Yeah sure it’s pretty stupid for people to freak out just because he wore a T-shirt with Arabic writing but hey I don’t blame them. We live in messed up paranoid times. As for incidents involving abuse like the one with the 2 Iraqi twins, I vehemently oppose them. Anyways, I’m not really opposed to racial profiling (when done professionally) if it actually does help but I’m not sure if it’s actually effective. Go ahead, profile all the Arab and South Asian looking ones. So what? Next time al-Qaeda will “kaboom” you with White or even Hispanic converts. If I remember correctly, the failed plot for taking down planes on the way to US from UK during flight involved a white convert.
I have to be frank though, sometimes this whole racial profiling thing doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. Maybe this is because I’ve never experienced it. Moreover my experiences when I arrived in America and traveled within it weren’t bad. Sure when I arrived at O’Hare, I had to be stuck there and questioned for about 3 hours thanks to my Sudanese passport. However the staff were very professional and friendly. They were simply doing their job and I didn’t mind the lengthy procedure that much. Hell, one of the guards there and I even started making silly jokes about Uncle Sam and Omar al-Bashir. I’m serious! We were basically chilling as he typed my info into his computer. Not only that but I also didn’t face any problems at all when I flew to Portland, Maine and New York’s La Guardia. My whole experience was actually fun! Damn, now that I’m thinking of it, I actually want to go back for a visit again. I miss New York diners! And Hooters! And Chicago’s Millennium Park! And Olive Garden! And my friends, oh my dear friends! And the unforgettable roadtrip! Maaaaaan!

Sudan, China, America & the CIA: What the Hell Is Going On?
My head really hurts! Something is fishy here and I’m trying hard to make sense of what’s happening with:
1) China’s move which contradicts Hu Jintao’s visit to Sudan.
2) America’s plan B (and its latest coercive efforts against Sudan) which contradict the news of the CIA building its largest center for east Africa in Sudan and also the cooperation between Sudanese intelligence and the CIA (a fact which gets little to no coverage in the US media).
I have managed to make sense of some previous/continuing aspects of it all in this old post of mine entitled “The Agenda Behind Darfur“. Also this post entitled “The Twisted Triangle: America, China & Sudan” does an excellent job at explaining the background. However, I still can’t manage to make sense out of the latest events. I’m confused and my head really hurts. Help!
UPDATE: Okay, I don’t need help anymore. My head doesn’t hurt much either. I talked to some people. Finnpundit’s comment shed some light and the following also helped a lot:
1) China voices oppostion to sanctions on Sudan.
2) This from an interview with al-Bashir:
Curry: I myself have spoken to the people in Darfur — people who have been shot and burned and women who have been raped.
Al-Bashir: Yes, there have been villages burned, but not to the extent you are talking about. People have been killed because there is war. It is not in the Sudanese culture or people of Darfur to rape. It doesn’t exist. We don’t have it.
Al-Bashir also accused the United States of trying to seize Darfur’s oil and gas riches.
“The goal is to put Darfur under their custody,” he said. “Separating the region of Darfur from Sudan.”
President al-Bashir accused the United States of angling to get access to what he says are Darfur’s rich oil reserves. He also addressed how Sudan shared information about Osama bin Laden with the United States before 9/11 and that ***this deep intelligence relationship continues***.
Another point I want to bring up is that as time passes, China and America will get more involved in a tug of war over natural resources in Sudan and African as a whole. More later.

Are You Going To Support THESE Palestinians?
I’m talking about a unique group of Palestinian women who oppose the Israeli occupation.
We are Palestinians living under occupation by Israel. The political situation is deteriorating as time passes by, and women’s rights is pushed further back on the political and social agenda. Anytime a woman tries to speak up, she is faced with fierce reactions from her surroundings. We have been under occupation since 1948. Being a Palestinian in this country means limited control over your life; everything is in the hand of the occupier. You are limited in moving around since most of the time you are not able to, because of curfews, closures, checkpoints and the wall that the Israeli government started to build since 2002 around the West Bank. You are focusing all of your energy on being able to provide for your family and basicaly in most cases just being able to survive.
Sounds lovely so far right? They deserve our full Muslim support right? Okay, I guess you’re probably still wondering what’s so unique about them… Here, ehm ehm (drumroll).
We are Gay in a society that has no mercy for sexual diversity. Coming out is not even an option because the consequences can be very severe. The options that are open to us are very slim; we either live a double life in order to survive, and still maintain good relations with the family, or run away to Israel where we can be forced into a hard life; prostitution, drugs..etc.
We have decided that the time has come to defy the norms of our society, and make them hear our voices for a change.
Yup, first it was Saudi lesbians and now it’s Palestinian lesbians aka ASWAT! Yaaay, woohoooo!! LOL!

Why Upside Down?
Okay, I just noticed that the Free Sami Now banner on my side bar has the Sudanese flag on it upside down which is basically dishonoring Sudan! WTFish?

Our flag looks like this:
It must have been a careless mistake by whoever made it (or was it the Jooooz?). Should I remove it? Hmmm… I think I might.
UPDATE: Heh. Okay I think I got it all wrong. Symbolism is interpretted differently by different people. Mark has an explanation.

Sudan: Arab or African? (The Debate Continues)
I had no idea that the post was still attracting new comments. I read it one more time and I realized that I could have mentioned something important. Sudan’s minorities. I only spoke in terms of Arab/African but mentioned nothing about ethnic minorities who do/did contribute to Sudan’s diverse ethnic pool. Maybe I’ll write something about that in the future.

“Inside Sudan” By VBS
Sorry, busy again and having some issues that I need to sort out. Meanwhile, check out these videos. Pretty interesting stuff (Intro, part 1, part 2 and part 3). I think some positive aspects could have been covered but I still like what VBS has done. It’s a very raw perspective. Make up your own mind. Peace!
UPDATE: Okay, I just found the main page of Inside Sudan. Check out the other following parts. VBS.tv rocks!
UPDATE: More thoughts on the VBS clips from a Sudanese named soulful_wala:
i have different views on each of the videos, the first one i really didn’t like how he was talking about the schools, for instance he was saying they only teach Quran, well no kidding thats what that type of school is, an all Quran school if he would have went to any of the public schools he would have found that they teach the other subjects such as geo, and math and so on. so we know this but i don’t think he knew it or perhaps he did but it would have contradicted the point he was trying to make. also i believe he tried to imply that learning the Quran makes you a terrorist, at some point in the video. that really made me mad. As for the second video i thought it was good, i mean the whole oil thing no kidding, why else would the gov’t support this horrific thing. its really sad how the whole world was all over darfur at one time when they labeled it a genocide, which I don’t think it was, but genocide or not it is completely inhuman and devastating and it is STILL happening, I mean when was the last time you heard about Darfur in the news, I mean they have more news on Britney Spears shaving her head then all the shit that’s going around over there, and in other parts of the world, so thank god for youtube. wow i really went off topic, sorry, but yeh the 2nd video was good, the 1st video not so much.

6 in 10 Americans Want Withdrawal By 2008
According to this poll, 6 in 10 Americans want US troops to withdraw out of Iraq either immediately or within a year. I’m watching the situation and the whole Donkey/Elephant debate quite closely nowadays. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
UPDATE: Go Hillary… or Elephants! Maybe this post can help you.

Israel Teaches Darfur Refugees Holocaust
Yup:
March 12, 2007 (JERUSALEM) — Israel took refugees from what the United States brands genocide in the Sudanese region of Darfur on a tour Monday of the Jerusalem memorial to the six million Jews exterminated in the Holocaust.
“This is a photo of Adolf Hitler who wanted to destroy the Jewish people,” the Yad Vashem guide explained to the group of visitors.
…Fellow Darfur refugee Ali collapsed in tears, admitting that photographs of piles of dead bodies reminded him of the fate meted out to his relatives.
Yad Yashem has consistently called on the Israeli authorities to grant political asylum to refugees fleeing Darfur, believing that the Jewish state has a special duty to the survivors of such conflicts.
Good on you Yad Yashem. I knew almost nothing about the Holocaust before discovering the blogosphere. The rapid growth of the internet and the democratization of knowledge are indeed changing things.
