Israel Teaches Darfur Refugees Holocaust

Yup:
March 12, 2007 (JERUSALEM) — Israel took refugees from what the United States brands genocide in the Sudanese region of Darfur on a tour Monday of the Jerusalem memorial to the six million Jews exterminated in the Holocaust.
“This is a photo of Adolf Hitler who wanted to destroy the Jewish people,” the Yad Vashem guide explained to the group of visitors.
…Fellow Darfur refugee Ali collapsed in tears, admitting that photographs of piles of dead bodies reminded him of the fate meted out to his relatives.
Yad Yashem has consistently called on the Israeli authorities to grant political asylum to refugees fleeing Darfur, believing that the Jewish state has a special duty to the survivors of such conflicts.
Good on you Yad Yashem. I knew almost nothing about the Holocaust before discovering the blogosphere. The rapid growth of the internet and the democratization of knowledge are indeed changing things.

“I knew almost nothing about the Holocaust before discovering the blogosphere. The rapid growth of the internet and the democratization of knowledge are indeed changing things.”
Being from the USA…I have always had pretty open access to information…but the blogosphere has connected me with a world that bascially could not make its voice heard. I am amazed and feel so blessed by this. This is especially true about the gift of connecting with Muslims who, intuitively, I knew must exist (Leftists, moderates, hippies, atheists, agnostics, couldn’t give a shits etc.) but never could hear from…much less “interact” with.
Hell…tonight I will have a guy from Darfur sleeping over at my house…now what were the odds of that before the Internet? A bit less than “0″ I would think.
The Internet, of course, like any powerful tool, can and is abused. But…these are miracles guys…
OH…and I do want to plug the Israeli organizations HAED and CARD who have been arranging these types of things, have raised money to help the guys in detention and are trying to do good things.

I don’t have CARD’s link unfortunately…but Eytan probably reads this blog
i am horrified by the events in sudan and even more by my lack of ability to do much more than donate small amounts..
as the grandson of a holocaust stricken family and of a sudanese women i feel very much bewildered by the world’s indifference..
Lirun…

Also, if people want to take a look at a post about a tour that I went on with some of the refugees in Israel:

If it wasn’t for your site, I wouldn’t know much about Darfur. The internet is teaching people the truth.
It is amazing how Muslim countries refuse to teach the Holocaust.
It is more amazing that the UN is worried about Palestinian suicide bombers well being over the Holocaust that is happening in Darfur.
Today, I learned that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is not alone in denying holocausts.
“Today, I learned that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is not alone in denying holocausts.”
What are you talking about? Israel is not denying the genocide against Armenians. Israel merely doesn’t want to talk about it.
If Iran decided not to talk about the Shoah and would simply leave Israel and the Iranian Jews alone, nobody would complain about Iran either.
Is this the typical “small crime + Israel/Jews = big crime” formula?
“Israel doesn’t talk about a genocide = Iran denies a genocide”?
I have never written anything about the fate of the Armenians anywhere. How is that equivalent to denying that a genocide happened?
