Well, it’s a step forward. But as you can gather from reading the article, our government would much prefer to pretend the refugees never existed. Erdan and Braverman are good people. The system hasn’t corrupted them yet.

But it has corrupted many of the other MK’s. The refugees will get official status in the end, I think, but it will take time. The current shmucks on top *will* try to dodge the issue.

    Drima-

Raccoon made some good points on this topic and they are reviewed in this article…

The issue is not racism…it is security and reality…What if a couple of these guys were Al Queada…man would the shyat fly…and then if word does get to Darfur…Israel could look like Southern California with our 4 million illegal Mexicans…and Israel could not absorb that…not even close.

On the other hand…where are the Muslim countries? I just heard from Mohamed Yahya who was at this big Arab pow-wow in Qatar. Days of down with Israel or whatever…in his words….NOT ONE WORD on Darfur.

At least Israel has the balls and integrety to cover the story and it is not really even “our problem”. At least there is pressue to help these guys.

Howie, I agree with you. You have no idea how sick I am with Arab and general Muslim hypocrisy in regards to Darfur’s situation. I just really hope these guys can live a decent life in Israel.

Here’s hoping. I’m very pleased that these two Members of Knesset (from opposing sides of the political spectrum, by the way) took this initiative, and the fact that they are from opposing parties might even expediate things. However, bureaucracy has a way of stalling moves like this. Let’s hope it goes through smoothly and with as little idiocy as possible.

And rather than Israel being worried about influxes of Darfurians into its territory, which I don’t think is likely to be a problem, I think that the Arab world ought to be worried. By turning their back on these refugees, the Arab world is essentially creating the first generation of pro-Israeli Sudanese.

” I just really hope these guys can live a decent life in Israel.”

    Yes me too

And “davka” I hope they stay and thrive…

  6. Roman Kalik on February 19th, 2007 8:11 pm

    I share that hope.

And NC, since when did Arab states think anything through in a rational manner? They’ve yet to realize that turning people into weapons tends to backfire. I think only Jordan managed to learn that lesson.

And yes, the fact that these two MK’s are from opposite parties may help. I just hope it gathers enough momentum so that the Kadima party is forced to accept it or lose PR.

The interviews are done. The security material is (I hope) gathered. Let it be acted upon.

Remember that Darfurians are Muslims, not even Jewish… in fact, they are black Muslims, very nice that Israeli democratic pluralistic multi-racial heroes accpeted the victims of the racist Arabs, Arab-supremacists comitting the genocide on non-Arabs in sudan.

Heard that Arabist Jimmy Carter the liar?

    Laura…

Easy girl…Drima is an Arab Sudanese and not whupping up on Darfurians, nor us Jooz…

I assume you are making a general statement…there are good guys that want the truth and care…like my main man…the Drima.

i saw them on tv the other day. really sad they had to stay there for so long. but, strange enough, although of course they complained because they are in prison, they were full of praise over the guards and others there.

I have been in touch with the two groups mentioned by Serapyah…I think if folks continue to pay notice…they will be fine…meanwhile there are groups making sure they are being treated decently. It is also good news to hear they are not complaining of an maltreatment.

    Do you hear that Bashir?
