The Donkey Party: Hillary VS Obama

by Drima on January 20, 2007

I just watched both the Obama and Hillary videos on their websites. I’ve gotta say… I’m really starting to like Obama. He seems to be an excellent and passionate speaker. Go Obama! Too bad I think America is not ready for a black president yet. Ah maybe a Hispanic one in the not too distant future.

It has nothing to do with whether the guy is black or not. He is a good speaker but I haven’t seen him do anything particularly important. He seems pretty namby-pamby. He is a liberal and pro-illegal immigration, so I won’t be voting for him.

One person I would really like to see make a go for it on the Republican side is Mike Steele. He would make a good vice-prez and a future prez thereafter. In fact, if he were to run, he would be my first choice for prez if Tom Tancredo wasn’t already throwing his hat in the ring. Tancredo has been my favorite for a long time.

Sorry, here is that Mike Steele link.

I’m worried about Obama’s background. Not just the questions about his past religious beliefs (if any) before he became Christian, but it also seems there are a lot of sketchy things he’s been involved in. No, not the Cocaine, either. Doesn’t bother me. I know a lot of people who used to do Cocaine, pretty regularly, especially back in the 1980s.

I don’t know about the “black President” thing. I was planning on voting for Condi if she ran… but she seems to be out of the running now. We’ll see. I’m sure it’s an issue for some people, but with other people it may even be an advantage.

Tommy, I’ve read about Obama’s life and I think it’s pretty interesting. I like his video much more than Hillary’s boring one. However when it comes to actual policies, I honestly don’t know who pick since I don’t know much. Pro-illegal immigration is pretty retarded if you ask me and so is immediate withdrawal from Iraq but I like Obama’s grassroots approach. I heard about Mike Steele. He doesn’t seem to be very popular with a lot of African Americans. Plus what’s up with this?

“Steele is opposed to abortion including in cases of rape and incest”

It’s pretty stupid if you ask me but I’m guessing the main issues you’re concerned with are security and immigration. Right? :)

Craig, I’m very positive the whole “black” thing won’t be an issue for many many people but it will defintely be for others. However we just witnessed America getting its first ever Muslim Congressman. If *that* can happen especially during *this* time of heightened tensions, then I guess the seemingly impossible can be possible.

I heard about Mike Steele. He doesn’t seem to be very popular with a lot of African Americans.

He is a Republican. He performed fairly well in his home state, Maryland, which is an overwhelmingly and consistently Democratic state. No Republican candidate is going to win the majority of the black vote, even if the candidate is black. I wouldn’t worry about him banning abortion in cases of rape or incest. I don’t support that position but I can understand that if you truly believe you are dealing with a human life, it is hard to argue that exceptions can be made in some instances, even tragic ones. The fact that he would be willing to take a stand that is unpopular with practically everyone on this issue just tells me the guy has some principles. Whatever Steele’s feelings on abortion might be, they are, for practical purposes, irrelevant. He isn’t going to ban abortion. It is a non-factor.

As for Obama, he is regarded by many blacks as not being a “real” black in the American mold. At first, I was actually surprised by how lukewarm many African-Americans calling into black-oriented radio shows have been towards Obama. But then, he is half-white, half-East African. He is not a person descended from those who experienced segregation and slavery, he was raised without the assistance of his black father, by a white mother and white grandparents. Obama grew up in multicultural (but not very black) Hawaii, rather than in or around America’s large urban centers or the rural South where most American blacks hail from. His skin color is about his only commonality with American blacks.

I would say that Obama resonates more with white, middle- and upper-middle-class liberals (particularly white women) with a ” white guilt complex” than he does blacks. I still think he is the forerunner, however. Hillary is a complete fake, is very boring, and is such a polarizing figure she would have a hard time winning in the primaries even against a Republican dud like McCain or Brownback. Unlike Hillary, Obama didn’t have an opportunity to get mired deeply in the politics of the Iraq war. That is going to be very appealing to many on the antiwar left, even though we really can’t say where Obama would have stood if he was in Congress when the authorization to go to war was being debated.

In any event, Obama has a good chance of becoming our next president.

Thanks for that comment Tommy… very interesting. Yes, I did read about Obama’s life and I already knew what you mentioned. And like you said, Hillary bores me to death.

What I really do like about Obama is his neutrality (if you can call it that) when it comes to race related issues. I believe it has to do with his upbringing. I hate it when obssesed people get caught up in race realted debates. Did I already mention that I love the way he passionately speaks? And again Hillary is boooooring *yawn*.

America wasn’t “ready” for Emancipation, or giving African Americans access to the ballot box, but we not only got ready real quick, we soon wonder why it was a big deal…

Malcom X, Al Sharpton, Carol Moseley Braun and Jessie Jackson have torn down the barriers, now it’s time for Obama to walk through. This may not seem fair, given the hard work of some many who have come before, but we were founded on similar unfairness: Washington’s level head, charisma and ability to bring all the parties together that qualified him to be our first President, not what he did during the war (you can bet he was the warmest person at Valley Forge).

Barack will get America ready to have a black President. And that will hasten the day when a man with an African father and a Euro-descent mother is labeled as a “black” whatever…

i like obama as well, and would love to see him in the White House. altho, i don’t think the general public is ready for him. he’s smart and has a lot going for him, and has done a lot for chicago since being senator, which hasn’t been for long… so, to me, it shows that he’s able to get things done.

personally, i could care less what religious affiliation he had prior to becoming christian… matter of fact, it wouldn’t bother me if he wasn’t even christian… too much emphasis on that crap in the world. if he’s a good man, that’s what matters. ppl lie about their religious beliefs anyhow.

ppl want to say that the only thing he has going for him is that he’s a good speaker… well… i disagree. i think he has a lot going for him, and i think it would be good to have fresh blood in the white house, no matter if he doesn’t have a lot of experience. it’s time for a change!

From what I have heard he would be the most socialist presidential candidate to ever run for one of the major two parties. This would make him a great choice for the Democrats if they were convinced than no Democrat could win but suicide if they thought he might actually win. A big raging socialist as a Democratic president would turn people off the democrats for fifty years. Still he has a better chance than Hillary since he keeps his cards to his vest and Hillary is… well, Hillary.

I think a black politician with good economic or national security credentials could write his own ticket to the White House. Unfortunately, Powell and Rice may have burned some bridges in their party for the 2008 election. Rice may still have some gas in the tank but she seems to be giving it a miss.

I think it would be a national act of betrayal against the Clintons if Barack Obama secures the black vote in this country.
No president and first lady have done so much for black people than Bill and Hillary. For blacks to vote for Barack Obama simply because he is darker than the Clintons would be racist and moreso shameful.
Barack lacks the political clout to get anything passed in the senate.
John Kennedy had a similar problem which is why he made LBJ his Veep.
If elected, blacks will have bragging rights to a half black president who can’t any legislation passed.
Whoop di dooo!!!!
