Sudanese Madeeh & Modern Music

Madeeh songs are Islamic songs that praise the Prophet, Allah or Islam in general. Here is a video clip by a Sudanese madeeh group I really enjoy listening to. Also if you want to watch Sufis in Sudan peforming their rituals, then check out this clip of Sudanese singer and music maker, Al-Sarah. It’s absolutely fascinating even for me. It really makes me want to go back and explore Sudanese Sufi traditions even more. You can download Al-Sarah’s songs from her website. Check out Habibi Ta3al and Jamila. Great songs with an “experimental style”.

Except for the clip of al-Sarah I liked all the songs (a lot) -very nice and ‘clean’ -

    it’s just a pity I don’t understand what the words are :D

    Tse.

I didn’t like the song of al-Sarah in the Sufi video either but the video itself is really fascinating. I love it. What about the madeeh? It’s so spiritual and calming… it really is especially if you do understand the words they’re saying. No?

Jamilah means beautiful and Habibi Ta3al means come my love.

    :)

yes, that’s what i mean: i wish i could understand what they’re singing because the music is truely beautiful.

    Funny “habibi ta3al” I knew:
used to call my father in law to the kitchen if food was ready:
    ta3al ta3al honni
(honni meaning ‘here’ in iraqi jewish arabic :D )

That first clip was great, Drima. While I didn’t understand the words the effect was still felt, I must say. Al-Sarah’s clip was kinda… off. The content was good, but the music wasn’t good for it.

LiberalHawk, that clip was cool. :)

How about something a lil more serious though? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcPnzmkmjKI
    Reggae, Jewish-style.

On Yahoo Music you have his good clip of Jerusalem. I prefer Youtube for anything else, so Youth’s from there.

On the Myspace link you can find the three above songs, but as high-quality songs with no visuals.

And if you like these as well… you might just find some surprises in your email mailbox. ;-)

She’s not bad …. nice mellow mood.
In the video w/the dancing men, there’s an old guy w/dreadlocks. What’s the deal ?

    And yes, Matisyahu rocks!
