I’m using my friend’s computer. I just wanted to bring your attention to a new Sudanese blogger. Her name is Path2Hope and I’m already loving her blog Nomadic Thoughts. She’s got very smart and honest opinions that I truly admire. Check out this post of hers. Sad but so true.
How can we advance when Africans are the ones holding Africans back?
Even if you changed the word “Africans” with “Muslims” or “Sudanese” it will still sadly remain so bloody true.

Hi Drima
Yes, I completely agree with your friend Path2Hope and with what you say abotu it being the same for Muslims. The more I try the more I find that the path of most resistance is coming from Muslims themselves. Here’s a story for you- I assist two young Muslim girls to escape their abusive father who has threatened to kill them or send them back to Afghanistan to be killed because they committed the great sin of talking to boys. Some time later, I am at a meeting with members of our Muslim community. What do they have to say? They say that if the girls get up to no good while they are away from their families then it will be difficult for them to find “suitable marraige partners” and so, the girls should be returned to their father as soon as possible to avoid them being placed in “dangerous situations” where they may be exposed to boys, alcohol, music or drugs.
Do you believe it Drima? Do you see what we are up against? In my book, avoiding an honor killing is waaaaaay above marrying a good Muslim boy in my list of priorities- obviously not for others. The problem is that some Muslims have such an Islamocentric view of the world that they are unable to actually see the world except through the narrow lens of their own interpretation and warped understandings of Islam.
Sorry to rant and rave about this but it is something that needs to be addressed- how can we advance indeed if we are the ones offering the most resistance to advancement?
Unsual suspect, that’s such a heart breaking story. Sadly I don’t find it difficult to believe at all. Dude (dudette?), I’m really liking your comments. You and I have the same view of things when it comes to Islam and politics. Please do drop by more often. Oh ya and your Condi-Bush thingy is hilarious.

Thanks Drima
That’s Dudette by the way. I know The Usual Suspect kind of sounds a bit blokey but it’s one of my favourite films. That and Zoolander!
Yes it is a sad story. After the meeting I was called “kafir” because I suggested that the girls needed a mentor/ role model who was not swarthed in a black hijab. As they were not hijabis I suggested that perhaps the Muslim women’s community groups trying to offer assistance were not reaching the girls because they could not relate to them. I also suggested that if all of the problems are because the girls have boyfriends, then we should bring the boyfriends into the discussions and engage them. Well, Drima you can imagine the shockwaves that caused! Soon as I left the meeting they started on about how I am trying to promote unIslamic things. Yes, apparently it is better to be thrown against a wall, tied to a chair, have your nose broken and be repeatedly bashed by your father than to have a boyfriend! I don’t understand it and never will. All I know is that it cannot continue like this.
So true. Especially the Muslim part, and certain Muslims more then others, but we are in a Preety fucked up situation, and as much as it pains me to say it be it in Sub-Saharen africa or Eastern europe, be it in Arabia or The Pacific we are pretty fucking lost, and it seems shit spirals out of control daily, a large part is dueto Arabia the Heritical Un-Orthodox Wahhabi movement , the Pan-Arabian nationalist movement, these are big contributors to the problem. Uhhh I have decided to move away to a far of Island, you shall not here from me, I am going to drop all my classes marry 4 lovley women, and start a new nation of people, and pure Islam shall govern, no culture, no rubish, no bullshit. it will be a havana of leaning, enlightenment, and love. Ahhhhhhh……
Oh shit, would that constitute strange pre-islamic customs of incest?
Better bring a buddy….
Oh no then we shall have clan rivalries…
Suicide with pills, is the best option.
Libyan Observer- can I come too? But can I have four hubbies?
Sure thing.
I havent found a verse or a authentic hadith that says otherwise. 4 hubbys, slave boys, whatever ya like. But pack up quick I wanna get the hell our of this hell hole quick.lol.
The Blashphamy, and Un-Islamic nature of the Muslim Ummah is fucking astounding. All of the can be blamed on one PIG. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. I hope that mother fuck roasts in Hell. For the mere fact that his inconsiderate actions led to the Mayhem we see. In all fairness it can also be blamed on these disgusting animals or these heritacal Ishamili death cult Modernist Movements ‘Hamas’ and “The Muslim Brotherhood” “wahhabis”, what rubish the whole ideology is alien to orthodox Islam, these people are ignorant illiterate ass monkies, the only Learned Muslim in arabistan with a proper islamic Education is the Mufti of Jeruslam. End of discussion. And because he knows his Islam no one shall listen to him. Salaadin dealth with these rodents, they attempted to kill him many times, these assasins, now the Europeans do not fuck with these people, the sent the greek Ibrahim Pasha, he killed thousands of these desert rats, and sent their ears back to the Caliphate. We Imazighen had Issues with them as well, and unfortunalty our leaders cowered in the Atlas Mountains, while the Heathen Scum conquered our land. Thus its been so bad in my region of tamagha the population is 85% arab.
Ahhh. Island.lol. Must remeber the Island. Must thing of Happy things…
Drima you’re right, we can substitute these two words with others and it would still have the same effect.
The Usual Suspect, the issues that we face in society definitely deserve a good rant now and then. The story you shared about the girls just reminded me how judgmental and harsh Islamic societies can be. People are quick to believe that girls get boyfriends for fun or to imitate foreigners or whatever, but sometimes these girls because of the strict rule in the house need to find someone who shows them kindness and even love. The problem is that this is even more dangerous because of the dependency that is created in the relationships and many times when that relationship ends, the rejection for the girl becomes overbearing and at times fatal. Muslims need to understand that it is okay to have faults and problems. At the end of the day what you choose to wear is nothing more than a choice, donning hijab or growing beards doesn’t mean that you are wearing your religion- religion is much deeper than that. If we say that Islam is not merely a religion but a way of life, how can we get others to understand the beauty of it when all so-called Islamic societies show nothing but ugliness?
I’m so sick of all this mess, The Libyan Observer can I come along to this Island as well?
if we’re signing up for the island-expedition - i’d like to join. may i?
Path2Hope- I love what you say- yes, exactly, you cannot wear your religion. Muslims have become soooo caught up in the superficial symbols of Islam that they are neglecting the very things that make Islam beautiful. They argue about silly little things like whether or not photographs are OK, they chide other Muslims for keeping dogs or celebrating children’s birthday parties- yet they forget about imaan and niyah.
I met a convert the other day. She said that when she became Muslim she couldn’t wait to put on the hijab so that everyone could know that she is Muslim and that everyone would treat her as such. I think this a narrow and constricted sense of what it means to be Muslim but is one that is increasingly popular .
Yes, the Island is a great idea- but what to wear? And as for 4 hubbies- I can’t even handle one husband let alone 4! What was I thinking?
Path2hope, a wonderful person & is more than a sis to me.Welcome aboard & it’s high time you let the world in your beautiful mind.
Libyan Observer, loool, the idea is tempting but evil is inevitable & shall always stick its ugly head to make us appreciate & value goodness:) That is why this life is temporary & the battle b/w good & bad shall not cease till we move on to our real abodes.
I’m so grateful to Drima & the blogosphere for rectifying my misconceptions & kind of showing me who are our real enemies are. It is us, our ppl. So,before we pin it on the West & Jews, we seriously & badly need to sort out our complicated issues.
Islam’s essence has been tainted by us.If the Danish cartoonist & the Pope thought ill about us, it’s our fault. Our beautiful religion has been hijacked, twisted & misinterpreted by corrupted souls.
Allah yihdee aljamee3
