About Darfur & About Me

by Drima on November 24, 2006

I finally made some free time to finish up the “What’s Darfur really about?” page on “We blog for Darfur”. It took me quite a while to get satisfied with it. I wanted to make sure what I said there was “non-politicized” as much as possible. Anyways, I still have to add a few more pages. The campaign will be officially launched very early December. And please remember this is not a “Drima initiative”. It’s a group effort conducted by Mideast Youth in collaboration with Good Neighbours. BTW I also remembered that the long version of the “About me” section has been rotting in my hard disk for a while now. I just added it. Check it out here. It’s mainly for my new visitors who still don’t me well and for familiarizing future visitors

Just wanted to say there will be a demonstration here in Cairo next month for the Sudanese refugees who were attacked by Egyptian security police last year in front of the UNHCR office in Mustafa Mahmoud Sq. I will try to make it and bring photos…

Drima, you’re doing some great work here. I thought your page on Darfur was intelligently and clearly stated. It’s one of the best I’ve read on the crisis and I’d recommend it to anyone for a more balanced understanding of what’s going on.

I’m glad your blog and the others you mentioned are getting some traction. The 800,000 folks in Lebanon, standing up as they did, were really inspiring. Shows what reasonable people can do. I liked what Ramzi said in Good Neighbors - that it isn’t a PEACE BLOG. It seems like it will be a place where reasonable people can come together to share and say what’s real and what might be done about it.

Congrats to you and your fellow bloggers, Drima!

Hey thanks for your kind words Bec. Now how about that Pumpkin Pie? Fedex or UPS? :)

For the hundreds of thousands who have been unjustly murdered, and for the millions more who are at risk of becoming just another statistic on the death toll…this is the least we can do: awareness.

It’s a great initiative Drima…and one I hope will bring forth some changes. Although those responsible for these atrocities don’t seem to be turning the other cheek…optimism and hope are all we have…and we, along with those unfortunate ones in Western Sudan can only pray that their right to live peacefully can be restored. That right has been flickering in the wind; and the breeze have been picking up ever since…

You make us proud ya 3ajeeb. :)

Some Arabic sources were added though it’s still very general. If anyone here knows any sites in Arabic or French that analyze the conflict that would be great.

ISIS, if you bring the photos and do a write-up we can post them. I’m very glad something like this is happening in the Arab world.

Sam, I just read your latest blog entry. Man, you’re actually HERE? Wana meet up? Until when are you staying? Email me bro!

And Esra’a thanks for adding those Arabic sources.

Hey Drima,

Totally off topic, but thought you might like to see this - echos of a previous post of yours, but in a positive light, I think.

That’s really cool Drima that blogging opened up your world to alternative views. It surely has made you wiser. You’re such a good man Drima! You’re such a rational voice in such an irrational world. You’re a fine example of a progressive liberal muslim.

Keep up the awesome work on this blog, I thoroughly enjoy it :)

You ever come back to Chicago and I’ll stuff you full of koshari if you like!

Hats off to you & may Allah bless you:)))

Tse, Hooters rules but their food sucks big time. You do know Hooters right?

18 Egypeter 11.26.06 at 8:41 pm

What??? Their food sucks?

Those are gourmet hot wings Drima! Please tell me you had the “Three Mile Island” flavor.

19 Drima 11.27.06 at 4:16 pm

Hmmm, no I haven’t tried that… Either all their food does indeed suck or I just ate the stupid stuff… i ordered their steak, chicken wings and fries… it was like plastic… no flavor at all…. but those who brought the food. Oh, they’re something else. LOL :)
