Sudanese Blogosphere in the Making!! Wohoooo!!

OMG someone used the words… someone used the words “Sudanese blogosphere”. A Dane in Uganda actually used those words. Yaaay! This is a good day!

I like the alternative versions of the news and development in Sudan and some interesting stuff is going on in the Sudanese blogsphere, which is surely not just limited to Sudan - it is global:

Black Kush who writes from Juba - an independent look on Sudan in an African context.

John Akec - a Sudanese blogging from London - promoting sustainable development in Southern Sudan - and a lot of other stuff.

The Sudanese Thinker - Drima is blogging from South East Asia - the world seen from a Sudanese’s point of view. In particular I like his 10 Rules. The man has got some essential points.

Hipster - young moslem girl - mainly writing in poetry style, commenting on stuff from the Mohammed cartoons to a muslim identity. Very cool photo, indeed.

Fluent Sudani a Sudanese blogging from New York. Check his Sudanese proverbs here.

Precious - a young woman from Umdurman, Khartoum State, Sudan - Interesting to read what a young woman thinks of life in Northern Sudan.

A few months ago when I started blogging, I was so depressed over the fact there was no Sudanese blogosphere and I was like “what the hell is up with us?”. Darfur is rotting and yet there is no Sudanese voice on the blogosphere “representing” or anything. Another thing that made it even more depressing is when I looked at other countries. I mean the Iraqi blogosphere has thousands of blogs, literally thousands and most of them are damn active. The same is the case with the Egyptian blogosphere and so many other Arab countries including Saudi Arabia and to a lesser extent some African countries. But when it came to Sudan, there was nothing, zip, nada, zero! That’s when I took it upon myself to be a visible “first”. It was difficult in the start. I always felt lonely and kind of jealous especially when looking at how active the Egyptians are for example. That feeling is going away. Thank you to my “fellow Sudanese voices” for joining. The more there is of us, the better and more fruitful our Sudan-related discussions will become. To the others, thank you for your support. Be sure to visit my country mates’ blogs once in a while. Expect more Sudanese bloggers to be joining soon. Mr. Man already has. We’re already working on convincing others to join the online movement. Yaaay! :)

[…] UPDATE: Some interesting stuff from Drima, The Sudanese Thinker: About Darfur (note: one of the root causes of the conflict is water shortage - I’m thinking sometime I should work on a post, or a series of posts, on water problems in Africa) and there’s a Sudanese blogosphere in the making. Both via SudanWatch. I think I will now fill up my Bloglines with Sudanese blogs, still looking for blogs in Chad and the CAR. […]

I am still curious on the Sudanese blogosphere…which is why I searched for you. Funny thing is I got a lot of response back! I also found angles I didn’t expect, i.e. debates on the Muhammed cartoons, which I have found very enlightning to follow.

I am living right on the other side - in Uganda - working with Sudanese refugees - so that’s my perspective - and sometimes I need a bit more human insight that what I can retrieve from people travelling in Sudan, the Ugandan papers or the UN - on what Sudan really is like… Not an easy one, you are the biggest country in Africa, and a difficult one.

So - glad things are moving in the Sudanese blogosphere.

Hello Pernille, I’m glad our blogosphere is blossoming too. BTW could you please send me some Danish cheese and Legos? LOL :)

Don’t worry, we still love you even though we didn’t like the cartoons and might I add hated the outrageous reactions to them. :)

    Cheers!

    Ciao!
Well, I certainly didn’t like the whole cartoon thing either. Danes come in many variations, that is all I have to say to that. Sorry, Danish cheese and LEGO is not exactly what I carry around with me in Uganda….
