The previous article got me seriously disgusted and depressed. I felt so damn helpless but I don’t anymore. While discussing the Darfur situation on Mideast Youth, an important realization was made. If we were all truly aware of what’s going on, this will not happen, or it will at least not be as bad as we allow it to be. The problem is that most people are too occupied with other news. In the Western media not enough deserving attention is given to Darfur. Don’t even get me started on the Arab media though. It’s far worse.
The Arab media is a shame… a real shame. Why is there hardly anything on Darfur? Why? Is it because the victims are a bunch of “blackie darkies”? OR is it simply because the evil Jooooz and Zionist CrUSAder America is not in the picture? I’ll leave you to choose but one thing remains certain. 400,000 “gang raped” Sudanese matter as much as 5000 Palestinians (militants included). This is the main message of the campaign.
Good Neighbours, the Mideast Youth bunch and I have taken in it upon ourselves to spread awareness throughout the blogosphere since the media hardly seems to care. Maybe they’ll actually start picking up more stories and reporting more about Darfur. I’ll take this opportunity to thank the guys at Mideast Youth and Yael at Good Neighbours. They’ve been an inspiring and very motivating group. We blog for Darfur still doesn’t have much content since it was only set up yesterday but I’ll be adding more real info soon in hopes of raising awareness and clearing up the many misunderstandings about the conflict. Support us!
UPDATE: The campaign is picking up. We’ve decided to make some few changes to the banners to reflect facts rather than catchy phrases. Everything is still in progress. Once it’s all prepared, we’ll officially launch it and hope that as many blogsas possible especially big blogs will join the initiative. One thing that we’ll defintely criticize and critique is the horrible coverage in the Arab news media.

This is a great idea… I was feeling the same thing.. very frustrated from feelin there was nothing I can do about it.. well this.. atleast it’s something!! Thank you Drima and all the guys Mideast Youth! really hope this brings out some good results!
I can’t speak for all people in the US, only myself but here’s my take. I do get news about Darfur, of course I’m a news junkie so probably seek out more sources than most but the news is out there.
I don’t think what news IS available is very comprehensive or complete which adds to my problem: as an American how can we/should we act?
There is a great deal of frustration on the parts of some of us who are sickened beyond words at what we see happening there but at the same time see how miserably we have failed to improve conditions on many occasions we have “gotten involved”, often only making situations worse.
Would I love to advocate for my government to help, to do the “right thing”? Unquestionably. The trouble is in knowing what is the best course, if one even exists.
I look forward to the new blog, hopefully it will at least attempt to answer some of these questions.
Oh you bet. I’m going to be busy making content for the new site. One of the things I’ll defintely have posted is a “possible solutions” post.
The best thing to do at the moment is more funding for the AU troops. When they first started they used to get the job done quite well until they finally ran out of money. Now they’re too short on money and equipment. That’s why they can’t get the job done properly.
The UN has been very full of crap lately even though I must admit that I appreciate the job done by people like Jan Pronk.
Mad props for the effort.
Good initiative! Proper information on what’s going on in Darfur is indeed difficult to find.
I mentioned the initiative on my own blog:
http://www.modspil.dk/politik/darfur_awareness.html
and would like to urge others to do the same.
greetings from Denmark,
Carsten
Excellent!
Get Journos involved. Michael Totten might be willing to help in this.
Strength and courage.
We’ve contacted people who have contacted other people in high places. Pajamas Media might get involved too. Screw the MSM, if they won’t inform then we’ll try our best to. I’m especially pissed off with the Arab media for not giving a damn. I’ll be sure to dedicate a post for them. I hope itoot will also help. This is still in the starting stages. It will take a while before enough contents are posted and the whole campaign actually kicks off officially.
BTW do you think LFG and DailyKos will be willing to participate together on this one in the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood? LOL
I don’t think Kos will be interested… with LGF, you stand a chance. Kos and LGF cooperating is like a cat and a dog hunting together, man - Christian apocalyptic visions
Hmmmm. Are you going to have a donations drive? With enough money you can fund media and ads campaigns - very effective. Get enough exposure and the MSM will have no choice but to cooperate.
I definitely agree with “Not My Mama.” The typical response here in the US is along the lines of “that situation is so awful”…and their actions reflect: “but what does this have to do with me?”
When I sport my “Save Darfur” gear around the town people actually ask me “what is Darfur?” It makes me realize just how clueless the majority of the population is here. If people are aware of the conflict, it is most likely by way of the mainstream media or celebrities where the gist of what you hear are “genocide” and “send UN troops” being thrown around.
So I think blogging is an excellent excellent medium-people need to not only understand the depth of the conflict and what can be done to help but also be able to put a human face on it; to relate to those who are in its midst. Then one can only hope the human conscience will prevail…
“with LGF, you stand a chance.”
Not in a million years, my friend.
