Khartoum Signs Peace Deal With Some Darfurian Rebel Commanders

by Drima on November 19, 2006

If I said Bashir isn’t doing anything to solve the Darfur crisis, I would be lying. The NCP is certainly doing a lot to settle the Darfur issue BUT they’re doing it all based on their own “lovely” terms and by using mostly very “ethical” means. This peace deal is obviously a good development. It shows that there are rebels out there who are willing to negotiate and compromise. However a deal is merely a useless deal with signatures on a piece of paper until both sides actually start sticking to it. I welcome this news but the disaster is certainly far from over. In fact there are some saying Darfur has become far worse.
