Israel Developing Anti-Militant “Bionic Hornet”

Interesting…

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel is using nanotechnology to try to create a robot no bigger than a hornet that would be able to chase, photograph and kill its targets, an Israeli newspaper reported on Friday.

The flying robot, nicknamed the “bionic hornet,” would be able to navigate its way down narrow alleyways to target otherwise unreachable enemies such as rocket launchers, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth said.

…”The war in Lebanon proved that we need smaller weaponry. It’s illogical to send a plane worth $100 million against a suicidal terrorist. So we are building futuristic weapons,” Peres said.

…Prototypes for the new weapons are expected within three years, he said.

Coooooool. Science fiction movies are coming to life. Me support! Anything that takes innocent civilians out of the equation should be supported. Go Israel! Okay, I think I better run and hide somewhere now. Ouch! Eggs are already being thrown at me. OUCH! Crap, okay okay fine I’m sorry. Death to the filthy Jews.

Heh. This is old, mate. There has been stuff like this for a number of years.

    Check this out.

There has also been a bio-mimetic (ornithopter) silicon-based micro flying robot developed… but I can’t find a linky to it. Bummer. Had a range of about a 100 meters, powered itself from electromangetic fields, had a camera… tiny little bugger, the size of a mosquito.

Oh well. Should be interesting, this :)

Man I wanna get an army of those. It will certainly be much easier to replace the Sudanese government with better politicians.

2moro’s battles are defintely going to get more interesting. Of course this will all be kinda useless once/if? Iran gets the nuke!

  3. The Raccoon on November 18th, 2006 10:50 pm

    An early Israeli MAV version

And yeah… battles will get more interesting with less humans dying. This prototype is part of an exoskeleton that will enter into service in 2008… me wants! :)

And hey, the survivors of the nuclear holocaust can use all these cool toys to wipe each other out. Never underestimate human enginuity :)

That’s something you should post about, Drima. What do Muslim in other parts of the world feel about Iran with a nuke? We know that it certainly is causing unease with Sunni Arabs in the Gulf, maybe even to the point of them (the Saudis) beginning to develop a nuke themselves.

Young Muslim people should be more interested in this subject, as it will mean the split of the Muslim world into a kind of mini Cold War (but of course, no cold war with nukes is mini).

    Jews……

…….is there anything they can’t do?

    (Except eat pork?)

Seriously, this shouldn’t be too hard. I remember reading about the development of these kind of micro-UAVs a few years ago. I’m just surprised they don’t have them already.

  6. The Libyan Observer(ALA) on November 19th, 2006 4:05 am

Man you are one sick dude. Israel is commiting genocide, its killing women and children, and you support this.

  7. Fnargl on November 19th, 2006 4:35 am

Typical propaganda there Libyan Observer, can’t you be anymore creative? With these devices Israel will be able to selectively kill terrorists while avoiding women and children, but I suppose you object to that too.

  8. howie on November 19th, 2006 4:45 am

    Libyan Observer-

    Think again dude…

It is such a hypocritical statement. On the one side…I hear how it is unfair because Israel has such an enormously powerful army. Then I hear…oh look how Nasrallah kicked their asses with pop guns and old Russian missles.

This type of technology is the OPPOSITE of genocide. Israel has hundreds of nucelar weapons and some other weapons I know about that can remove whole city blocks at a whack. If Israel’s intention was genocide…would there not be more than 3-4 Palestinians killed in a typical battle? Even in Lebanon…folks admit that less than 2,000 were killed.

And this new technology is made to AVOID killing innocents, and yes…to also terrorize terrorists. And well they should.

Look…Libyan Dude…if you are worried about genocide…why not start a bit closer to home…like Darfur…more Moslems have been killed by Molsems in the past 3 years there than 50 years of Arab-Jew wars COMBINED!!!!

Do you just think emotionally…or do you want to examine the truth? Do you just hate Israel so blindly that you don’t want to examine the truth. Do you get your info. from sources besides Al Jeezera? Do you have the courage to think carefully about what I have presented here?

You guys have had the likes of Moammar Kadafi…and you criticize ISRAEL for her policies. What has Libya done for the world? Any Nobel prize winners come out of Kadafi’s crowd lately? Have they stood up for the dying Molsems being killed by Moslems in Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Kuwait, Yemen, Bosnia, Sudan, Somalia?

Go blame the Jooz dude…that will make everything all better…oh and throw in America while you are at it.

Ah that feels better…don’t have to think difficult thoughts…ahhh

  9. Drima on November 19th, 2006 8:18 am

Owww Libyan Observer, why do you want to through more eggs at me?

Listen dude can you explain to me one step at a time why my post indicates I’m sick? You’re reacting based on your emotions. Until you learn to get over them, nothing will change and the anger will just remain there. Plus, I think Howie said it all already.

Finnpundit, hey that’s a cool and very important subject to post about for sure. I’ve had endless discussions with many of my Muslim friends regarding this both Shia and Sunni… I already have the main points in mind. BTW there’s something you asked for a looooong time ago which I forgot to let you know about. You asked me to get more info about China’s increasing involvement in Africa. When I added the blog below to the sidebar, I had you in mind. It has a lot of info and links about Africa-China issues.

Arab armies invaded Israel several times with the stated goal of genocide.

    Israel won ALL these wars.

Yet the Arabs are still alive, even those under Israeli power.

The Jews are evil, but they are also incompetent. Never in history was a genocide this badly-executed.

*throws some Kinder chocolate eggs at Drima*

Dude, you said you were going to write about Islam some time. The Raccoon, he remembers :)

BTW, this is where a killer MAV would come in handy. Or maybe something really big to help these people achieve their apparent ambition of martyrdom, it’s hard to decide.

  12. Drima on November 19th, 2006 12:21 pm

“Dude, you said you were going to write about Islam some time. The Raccoon, he remembers :)”

Dude, I’m still on campus and I need access to some books that my dad has. As soon as I’m done with my exams, I’ll get to go back home and grab them. :)

Believe me the podcast, some of my music and the Islam posts will be posted up by around December.

Drima never breaks his promises ;)

  13. Drima on November 19th, 2006 12:23 pm

I thought writing the post would be easy but frankly it’s quite a challenge that has got me thinking and exploring.

  14. Drima on November 19th, 2006 1:08 pm

BTW Raccoon, if you have time you should read this.

    http://www.law.emory.edu/cms/site/index.php?id=2245

Download chapter 1 and take your time to read it. That’s the truth right there and not what power-hungry retarded Mullahs are preaching about Sharia. Nobody has the right to a monopoly on Islamic interpretations.

  15. The Raccoon on November 19th, 2006 3:05 pm

Thanks for the linky, mate. Pity it has no references.

And exams is what counts. You’d better get perfect marks, too… it’ll help a lot when you’re taking over the world :)

  16. Drima on November 19th, 2006 3:28 pm

Dude my next paper is one weeeeek away :)

    I’m gonna chill for a while :)

    Plus, which is better?

    3.8 GPA

    OR

    let’s say 3.3 GPA + music + blogging + entrepreneurial efforts + others

Believe it or not during my first semesters I wasn’t so satisfied even though I had one of the top 5 highest GPAs in all of my course batch.

I find the second option much more satisfying. It makes me realize my full potential in things I actually enjoy. :)

I hate education that involves shoving your head with info to memorize and churn out. Real education to me is about being able to think and being creative. I’m looking forward like hell to my internship coz THAT’s real education in my opinion. Nothing beats real world experience :)

  17. The Raccoon on November 19th, 2006 4:36 pm

Well, frankly, the best thing would be both perfect grades and having enough time to do other stuff.

You don’t get to think and be creative in Uni? (Wouldn’t surprise me - I am horribly disillusioned about the whole academic system). There are few things more pleasuring and amusing than watching your prof’ go white, struggle for words… and then give you the highest mark anyway.

One of my fondest memories from uni was presenting a flawlessly designed and executed advertisement campaign plan for Discordianism… oh, the glorious screaming, the confusion and panic it produced :)

  18. howie on November 19th, 2006 5:56 pm

I am the last guy to run around protecting the uni’s, but now I will.

Remember…much of college is not a professional training school (except say, engineering, medicine)…it is more the world of truthseeking (often grossly misdirected and manipulated) and the world of exploration of ideas…esp. the liberal arts and humanities.

So you often don’t walk out of there “ready for the world”…but in fairness, to this day, and I started college at 17 in 1969…I still pull on things I learned form many of those classes.

Education is an on-going progess and a good deal of what you get out of it depends on you. Yes…you will do a bunch of bullshit assignments (can you believe that in my first stat. class I had to do square roots by hand and show all my work…try I few…talk about busy work).

So you might want to re-think your college experience..esp. the undergrad world…which de facto…is rather generic and general. There are some great profs (and dumb shits) and great learning experiences all over the place.

About micro robots doing interesting stuff… check this out. Nanobots living inside your body, rebuiding it and so on… how very Metal Gear :)

this is really scary. killing another person should never be this easy.

  21. Hipster on November 22nd, 2006 9:36 am

How can one guarantee that this won’t fall in the wrong hands?

  22. Drima on November 22nd, 2006 4:45 pm

I don’t know but If, I repeat IF this is used wisely then it’s surely a cool thing.
