AND… the Donkeys have taken over the Senate. I felt that a blue victory was inevitable given how the MSM was banging the Elephants over Iraq and various scandals. It’s up to the Donkeys right now to make sure America stays safe and to fix the situation in Iraq. Also, I must say something. After reading tons of leftist news and blogs, I’ve come to the conlcusion that the Donkeys have no proper plan for Iraq or to protect America. All I read were critcisms, many of which were harsh but no alternatives to the current Elephant plans in place. The Elephant plans are without a doubt flawed and big mistakes have been made in Iraq. On the other hand the Donkeys don’t really have a plan from what I’ve concluded. I have the impression they’re only focused on withrdrawing from Iraq. If they do withdraw before Iraq is stabalized then I must honestly say that I’ll consider it as a defeat… a very bad defeat and a second Vietnam. Here comes the question: Which one is better having no plan or having a flawed plan?
The Donkeys must do their best to come up with solid alternatives. They have the chance to produce something fresh and I pray to God they can keep America safe from terrorist attacks. I also don’t want to see America moving to the left and wake up next day only to find people like Cindy Sheehan in positions of power. Don’t get me wrong, I like her and the fact that she’s always smiling. Moreover I feel sorry for her and the loss of her son in the Iraq war but I seriously don’t think she should be in a position of power. In my opinion she seems pacifist and she doesn’t have the balls to confront the dangers facing her country (other voice in my head: Duh, she doesn’t have balls. She’s a woman you idiot!). Donkeys on the far left don’t seem to realize the threat terrorists pose. Dear American leftists reading this, open your eyes and realize the threat facing you. I would not want another 9/11 happening in America since that would be horrible for you Americans and us Muslims.
Donkeys have 2 years to prove what they can do. All they’ve been doing so far is screaming at Elephants. Will the Donkeys be able to walk the talk or will they screw up and pave the way for an Elephant president in 2008? Time will tell. Meanwhile I’m really enjoying this whole “Donkey Elephant” thingy. You Americans sure do choose the dumbest animals to represent your political parties.
UPDATE: I just wanted to add one more thing and I say this mainly to my American readers who voted. You actually voted. You voted and exercised your right… You actually voted. Many throughout the world don’t even have that simple privilege. God knows I don’t and for that you should be thankful.

1. I can’t disagree with you about the Donkey’s lack of an actual plan on the war in Iraq. It’s been my own complaint and fear the past 3 or so years.
Don’t fall into the trap though of thinking that just because Democrats view how to deal with the “War on Terror” differently, means that they are discounting the threat posed by people that would shoot first and ask questions later (if ever…).
2. My “home” state just elected the first Muslim to Congress, ever. Keith Ellison.
*Apologies in advance If the html tag doesn’t work*
While many have banged him for his so called ties to terrorists (innocent until proven guilty), I’m very happy about his win and it just goes to show that America is truly a great democracy…
I had a random thought the other day… He’s a Muslim and yet Jews voted for him. Do you realize how amazing that is… If only the Arabs took him as an example and cut the crap with all the anti-Semitism in the region. He said he’ll be visiting Israel soon… I don’t know maybe this guy is the guy to finally be able to settle the disaster that is the Pal-Israel conflict…
Huh…wow… The Matrix… ey maybe he’s the “Neo” of the Middle East… OMG he’s the chosen one!
=p
I forgot my need to get up and fetch another cup of coffee when I read this:
“. . . a very bad defeat and a second Vietnam. Here comes the question: Which one is better having no plan or having a flawed plan?”
At the risk of slapping up the most presumptuous comment ever, Drima, I have to say that the tragedy is that you are too young (perhaps) to realize that Bush’s un-provoked, unnecessary, largely unilateral invasion and unplanned occupation of Iraq (UULUIUOI) has amounted to and continues to be a major departure from the American tradition in foreign policy. Neocons are not just an ultra conservative administration: they represent a militarist mutation of conservatism which tracks its origins only back to Leo Strauss, not to settled American traditions or political thought. As such, they are alien.
If they were only a ‘very conservative’ Republican administration, there could be room for confidence in a belief that the merciful pendulum of history would swing back naturally in a couple of years. In which case, we could say, suck it in, manage the mess in Mesopotamia as best we can, honor bush’s commitments as if they were our own, etc.
But this is not the case. Bush and Cheney and Rove represent the worst American can be and, left to cycle out in 2008, will yet become. After 2008 they will not be long gone. They’ll be back, metastasized in an even more virulent form.
All this is to say, there are stakes bigger than Iraq involved here. In foreign policy alone, the doctrine of preventive war, preemptive war, or whatever - in hell - you want to call it, has to be repudiated and banished from American lexicon. Until we do this, we can accomplish nothing of value for Iraqis or for ourselves.
Vigilante, thanx for the comment. Well, I was born in 86 so that makes me 20 only. I haven’t studied the history of America and I only began observing politics about 5 years ago so when it comes to countries other than Sudan, I don’t know a lot.
I’m worried about one thing though that will be bad for us Muslims and America. IF another major terrorist attack occurs in America in the next 2 years, in 2008 we’ll most probably witness a shift to the far right in American politics. That my friend will be disasterous. The far right is I’m afraid war hungry.
Drima, now - as in 2001 - the antidote and defense against terrorist attack was not invading Iraq but in vigilance at home. We have yet to intstitute the 9-11 recommendations. Defense against suitcase bombs and shipping crate bombs may not be as glamorous as Tom Cruise marines, shock and awe and the rest of that stuff. But that doesn’t change that bonafide homeland defense requires good old fashioned police work. With the emphasis on good. An endless Iraquagmire plays into the hands of the far right-wing in the intermediate and long range future. (Look how long they parlayed the Vietnam grudge.) The time to stop it is now. Make Bush eat his own war
