Ali Eteraz made a stunning discovery:
So, Al-Jazeera is pretty popular, no? It provides the “Arab” angle, no? It’s “honest” in its assesment of American and Israeli hubris, no?
Check out who Al-Jazeera uses as its satellite provider.
Where is this company based?
Oh, Israel.
Hardliners need to shut the hell up about destroying Israel, and realize that people are already doing business with it — like al-Jazeera — and use economic relations to get back to ‘67 borders. Violence is not the answer. Besides, who then will pump Al-Jazeera? By the way, this company also provides services for Kurdish TV, and who of us could live without our Kurdish programming!
Right on brotha!! But come to think about it, this whole finding doesn’t stun me that much. I mean hey, isn’t Qatar like in such super good terms with Israel? But come to think about it again, it’s still stunning. I mean hey, isn’t al-Jazeera and its staff like so super anti-Israeli? Bleh whatever. PEOPLE, spread this news around!!
UPDATE: Ya’ll know Sheikh al-Qaradawi right? He’s the guy who supports suicide bombings against Israeli civilians and doesn’t consider them to be terrorism. He’s super anti-American and of course anti-Israeli like DUH! I wonder how he feels about this given the fact that he’s strongly associated with al-Jazeera.

Doesn’t Rupert Murdoch own a large share of al-Jazeera?
Qaradawi isn’t exactly super anti-American. He condemned the September 11 attacks and even issued a fatwa encouraging Muslims to fight in Afghanistan against the Taliban during the October 2001 invasion.
He is also ironically reviled amongst Salafis for being, get this, very liberal. I’m not defending Qaradawi, but just had to correct a couple of misconceptions.
Danial, I already knew that but thanks anyways mate.
Oh ya and just because he condemned 9/11, that doesn’t lessen his super anti-Americanism. It just means he doesn’t support bin Laden. In fact he’s against them and bashes them but unfortunately he considers Hamas’s suicide bombing operations to be justifiable. I don’t like that. These guys blow up innocent people on buses and restaraunts. I understand the occupation has been nasty but it isn’t an excuse. Many Islamic scholars disagreed with his fatwa supporting Hamas suicide operations but he lashed back at them real hard.
I’ve said something previously quite a few times. I don’t mind people being damn super critical of America and Israel but I heavily dislike it when people hate… like really really hate America and Israel. Their hate becomes so blinding and they all become part of the problem.
I agree with you Drima. I may not like Israel, but I cannot support the killing of civilians in Israel. It is also un-Islamic as well, since the Qu’ran forbids the killing of non-combatants.
But with the case of Qaradawi, he’s nothing compared to morons from England’s Al-Ghurabaa or NYC’s Islamic Thinkers Society, whom have called Qaradawi an apostate many many times. Some of the hard-line Islamic forums often bash Qaradawi on a regular basis because of some of his stances that tend to be on the “liberal” side according to Islamists, such as democracy and support for the war in Afghanistan. He even issued a fatwa forbidding the destruction of the Buddha statues in Afghanistan IIRC.
It’s funny to hear morons like Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed or Abu Hamza al-Masri bashing on Qaradawi in the past.
WTF?!! Danial are you serious?? Man now that’s something I never knew. It’s shocking that those who say this crap are actually in England in New York. SHOCKING!!
BTW, are you sure Qaradawi supports the war in Afghanistan?? If he does then hez kool man… Down with the filthy Taliban. I just hope he can tone down his anti-Israeli stance and denounce suicde bombings against innocents… Then I might actually be willing to accept him.
What a suprise, jews will sell arabs the rope that is used to hang them, and Arabs will say one thing and do another.
Shocking.
Yes, Qaradawi is a real nice kind of guy. His views include
- support for female genital mutilation
- rejection of women’s rights to be equal
- support for terrorist attacks in Iraq
- support for death penalty as punishment for apostasy
- considers being thrown from heights or burnings as appropriate punishment for gays
- and, of cause, support for terrorism against Israel.
If this guy is as liberal as Islamic clerics get then we have a problem.
“What a suprise, jews will sell arabs the rope that is used to hang them”
I guess “bling bling” is more important.
“and Arabs will say one thing and do another”
Ya let’s boycott Pepsi but pay money to Israeli satelite providers instead. Sigh!
“If this guy is as liberal as Islamic clerics get then we have a problem.”
Super Sigh! I need some prozac.
Human nature is awfully confusing, ain’t it?
“WTF?!! Danial are you serious?? Man now that’s something I never knew. It’s shocking that those who say this crap are actually in England in New York. SHOCKING!!”
Yes I am dead serious. Here’s a Salafist site where it criticizes Qaradawi for a number of positions.
And another one by the former al-Muhajroun.
“BTW, are you sure Qaradawi supports the war in Afghanistan?? If he does then hez kool man… Down with the filthy Taliban. I just hope he can tone down his anti-Israeli stance and denounce suicde bombings against innocents… Then I might actually be willing to accept him. ”
Yes I am positive. I remember after 9/11 he denounced the September 11 attacks harshly and urged Muslims to donate blood to the victims.
In addition, he also condemned the Tunisian synagogue attack in April 2002 and refuted al-Qaeda’s claim that it is their right to attack places of worship. So you can’t really say he’s a hard-core anti-Semite.
I’m not a fan of him at all and I do not agree with everything he says, but he has made a lot of points that I agree with, such as how lazy Muslims are. He’s no friend of al-Qaeda, that’s for sure.
and to think for awhile there I wasn’t considered fit to roam the streets due to mental problems. I have read many of Qardawis teachers and he’s nuttier than a snicker’s bar(actually eccentric since he has a lot of money).
Why surprised? INTEL INSIDE right? That’s Israel in you PC man…
Well, I can easily be Jazzera’s number one hater, BUT…
I’d hate to extinguish ur flame….the site u referred to is for an uplink provider in israel…most probably Jazeera use them to upload video from palestine and israel…bas i dont think they r their primary satalleite provider!! or they would be CNN’s and NBC also!!! i dont think so….if a stationoperates in any country, it uses local uplink providers to send the reports they prepare there…
Sorry, but this is a non-news!
next time, maybe!
Fantastic post! I agree with you: violence is not the answer; understanding and cooperation is. Dr. Richard Leakey, noted anthropologist, wrote that the key to human survival is cooperation; the threat to its survival is violence. Thanks again, Drima! lynne
haha! what a bunch of crap.
1) Al-Jazeera doesn’t go all out wanting to destory Israel you idiot, infact its the only Arab News station which regularly interviews Israeli’s… including executive heads of the Israeli government.
2) So what if it’s satelite broadcaster is in Israel? It’s a fucking business you dumbass.
I think you’re confusing the “terrorists” with a freakin news Station.
Btw… Qaradawi justifies Palestinian Martyrdom operations because the palestinians dont have an army or any freakin weapons to fight the M16’s, Fighter jets and Tanks which the Israeli’s have, nor do they have any training or any homes since the bloody israeli’s destroyed most of them, tell me what options they have available? Plus, nowhere does he say that civilians should be attacked. Why don’t you actaully read what he says? Also, If you look at his other rulings he says Martyrdom operations are not allowed in Iraq becuase they actually have weapons to fight with.
Tomanbay, hmmm interesting.
M, no I think you’re the dumbass who’s full of crap… Either present your points respectfully or buzz off…
“Plus, nowhere does he say that civilians should be attacked. ”
Show me where Qaradawi has said so and I will withdraw my comments. Suicide bombings against military targets are one thing but targeting civilian non-combatants is something else. I believe he supports both. Show me proof that says otherwise.
This post shows a bit of a lack of (perfectly understandable) understanding of how broadcast news works via satellite.
It is neither practical nor economical to ship reporters around the globe with hundreds of kg and tens of thousands of dollars worth of satellite uplink equipment, only to have to then worry about buying/renting a vehicle to mount it on.
They will simply contract uplink services from companies in the local country which have a fleet of SNG trucks, fully equipped with video editing and broadcast equipment, as well as satellite uplink capabilities.
The fact that they use RR Sat is about as shocking as the discovery that they may rent or buy their own personal cars from Israeli companies rather than shipping them from overseas.
thanks for the info Steve =)
