BAGEL! I just woke up and my brother asked me if I wanted a bagel. I was like “what the hell is a bagel?” His housemates and him all started laughing. NOT FUNNY! How the hell am I supposed to know what a damn bagel is? Anyways I tried one with cheese and eggs. Kinda nice ey! It feels like a donnut that has been left to dry for days. Also for the first time I tried raw fish with lemon juice on board the flight on my way here. It was so good. Seriously! I can’t wait to try Suishi now. I was always afraid of eating raw fish but not anymore. Oh ya and I just got a taste of the real America “average Joes” experience everyday. My brother’s housemate’s car got stolen today LOL. Someone smashed the window and drove it away. It happened when we were sleeping. This is the fourth time the same guy’s car gets stolen. Nice huh! Hurray to America yaaay! By the way my trip to California has been confirmed and here’s the best part. It’s gonna be a road trip from Chicago all the way to LA and we’re gonna stop at many places along the way including Laaaaas Vegaaaaas baby wohooooo! I’ll experience the “negativity” of secularism first hand so maybe I’ll start to like it huh? LOL Strip clubs wooohoooooo… ZIP… Damn it, I ain’t even 21 yet. Fake ID anyone?? My friend in the US Marines offered to get me one but I don’t know guys… Should I?? LOL… Naaa, I don’t wanna risk it… Laterz… I’ve got to go grab more bagels… Muahahah bagels bagels bagels… I’m gonna write a song about bagels one of these days… Hey, I hope I spelt bagels correctly. I did right? BAGELS! Wohooo! Bagels bagels! Muahaha! Laterz… LOL

That’s traditional German-Jewish (aka eastern European Jewish or Ashkenazi) food, you know.
I love bagels!
The original spelling is “beygl” and I believe that spelling is still used in Austria.
Sounds like you’re having the time of your life… did they slip anything into your drink, or did you get high from the thick smoke hanging in your brother’s place?

Japanese food is simply the best, BTW. Seriously. Once you start eating it, you get addicted.
Just don’t try raw squid or octopus - they taste like slimey rubber tires
Write more experiences, man - I really want to know what the Empire looks like through your eyes
And BTW… don’t you need to be over 21 only in order to drink? Naughty naughty Muslim… heheheh
hahah i had a bagel for breakfast tooooo today!! LOL
Tastes best with cream cheese!! (or ham) but in ur case chicken ham hehhe
I was so excited to find them in Singapore ^_^ They’re REALLY expensive in KL
Roooaaad TRIP!! sounds like fun.
you should have waited till you were 21 to go there heheh
you can go to war at 18, but you can’t drink till you’re 21.
in the words of Chris Rock “That aint right!”
Good for you man, You dont notice the things right in front of you, until they are gone. So what do you think about American culture and about the people? How do they appear to you?
Next word in your vocabulary: lox.
Heh tommy.
oOooOo…lox spread is goood! drima! i’m taking you to eat sesame bagel with lox when u come down to ny..lol!!!
When I was in the US a loooooong time ago, I gained so much weight I didn’t fit into my clothes anymore when I returned to the Netherlands (where I used to live then). Since then, I’ve seen Israeli’s going to the US and returning fatter than they left. Ya betta watch it, Drima
Have fun !!
Tse.
Watch it now, Drima, one day in the US and you’re addicted to Jewish food
And strip clubs ? look at this way: you gotta know just how immoral the West is, so you can tell the Sudanese about it. Dive in, learn, enjoy, stay sane.
If you’re going through Utah on the way to Las Vegas, go through Zion National Park and/or Arches National Monument in the southern part of the state. I went through there last Novemeber on a roadtrip as well and I have to say it has one of THE unique and irreplicable areas of scenery in the world. Might be hot there, now, though.
Grand Canyon, South Rim is also the same way (south rim: sun not in your eyes) and I will say that place is better than the UN for getting people of all nationalities and ethnicities together and smiling. The watchtower structure at the east entry of the South Rim is also a unique landmark.
And in Vegas, it doesn’t necessarily have to be all about the T&A. Or even gambling. (I forget the comedian who said it but the quote is: “I don’t even like to spend money on stuff I HAVE.”) Even just hanging out in one of the MGM Hotel lobbies watching the lions amble about in their playpen for free is fun. I recommend seeing the Cirque de Soleil production of “Ka” there as well, but unfortunately it’s BUCKS BUCKS BUCKS for a ticket. Fortunately, you can see where all those bucks bucks bucks bucks go to onstage, so, yeah, it’s worth it. Anyhow, it’s also fascinating to just wander around the entire Strip.
Have a safe trip.
It sounds like you are having a wonderful time. Well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! You are about to take my dream trip. One day soon I want to take that Route 66 trip. Is that what you are going to do? I think that you will get a really good taste of the real “America” on that trip.
You don’t have to be 21 in every state. Vegas might be 18 but I haven’t been there yet. I will be there in July. When are you going to be there? You could call a blogger convention.
Um Haleema,
I’ll be in Vegas on 7th or 8th July… Blogger convention huh?? I wish, it would be a lot of fun… More fun than strip clubs…
Rats, I don’t get there until the 10th. Hang around until then and we could meet up at The Aladdin. I’m sure you will be corrupted enough by then that we could have a riot together! There really is so much in Vegas that you would never have to set your eyes on a strip club. Go to Vegas.com and plan out your stay there. How much time do you intend to spend there?
Are you going to hit any museums in Chicago? They have the King Tut exhibit right now I believe.
I might go to the museum today. The King Tut exhibit is still on. And ya about the strip clubs, I’m just joking about it. I wouldn’t really wanna go even if I was paid to. I call it the “negativity” of secularism =p
Haram LOL
BTW anonymous, thanx for the description. Sounds great. I’ll tell my bro about it so we can include it in the plan…
I hope that this trip might finally convince you that secularism isn’t such a horrible thing. Like I’ve told you before, it’s much better that a person “chooses” not to do haram things rather than being forced by the state. I believe it means so much more that way.
Enjoy your stay the museum.
And while in Vegas, say Hi to Iqbal Khan and the others detailed in the 5-part series of newspapaer stories in “Vegas Muslims: Spiritual Thirst Found a Desert Spring, Thursday, August 12, 2004 By Peter H. King Los Angeles Times”

whats secularism??
A bagel has about 400 calories, so be careful
If you are going to Nevada and you have money to burn, you can go far beyond just strip clubs.
Think Carson City brothels.
LoL.
Oh. If you find an Outback Steakhouse location you might want to try dinner there one night.
Outback is my brother’s favorite.
Don’t let anyone fool you, they call it Australian cuisine. Truth is, despite the gimmick, Australians have no real cuisine to speak of. (LoL.) Outback steakhouse is about as American as it comes. Tony Roma’s has good ribs too and awesome sauce but some complain their ribs are sorta’ small. Still worth a try. (Both Outback and Romas actually started in Florida, BTW.)
Drima,
I’ve been to Vegas several times and there are lots of things to do besides engage in ’sin’ lol. Lots of good food and shows to take in. if you like music, lots of musicians perform in Vegas. In fact, i learned that old musicians never die they just go to vegas. I was out there in 2001 and musical groups poppular in the 50’s,60’s and 70’s were doing shows everywhere. I don’t know how familiar you are with American rock and roll legacy, but I remember the righteous brothers were among the old school groups performing.
I don’t know if you enjoy beef but if you are going through the Midwest, lots of good steakhouses available
Ah! Stay away from all chain restaurants! Ok.. maybe not
Though, when travelling I do heartily recommend that you take in as many of the smaller restaurants as you can. Local deli’s, bistros, and food stops are great places to just talk with people and to eat good food.
My recommedation, before going through a state, try and find that state’s digest newspaper (they’re usually smaller arts and entertainment papers). They tend to have great recommendations on where to eat.
A great place to begin is www.citysearch.com
You can search by city, state, cuisine everything. Go out, explore, enjoy yourself… you’re off to a great start
You’ll love Vegas! Don’t think they’ll check for your ID, but not sure.
Calif. is the best… hope you enjoy it. The road trip sounds fun.. it’s the best way to see the States.
Bagels are great, but you’ll never really know what they taste like in Chicago. (I hope you didn’t try the laughable Duncan Donuts ones.) But once you hit New York, you’ll see how great they really are.
[…] Anyways, cheers yo! Ama go and try to find me a bagel. […]
