World Cup: Don’t Boo Iranian Team

The world cup is just 2 days away and many people are already so hyped up about it. As we all know the football team from our “beloved” Iran qualified. During the opening ceremony, the Iranian football team shouldn’t be boo-ed. I think that would be a lack of sportsmanship from the audience. During the previous Olympic games, the Sudanese team was boo-ed very loudly to show protest for the atrocities in Darfur. That was NOT nice. A friend of mine was in the olympic team, representing Sudan for tennis. He told me it was very demoralizing for him and the whole team when the crowd boo-ed.

Please people, don’t mix sports with politics. Support all teams in the world cup (especially Brazil =p). I’m sure that if Iran qualifies (slim chance) and Ahmadinejad wants to attend the finals in Germany, it will be another whole debate by itself.

yes i agree….sports must not be mixed with politics…the only reason for sports is to gathere ppl from all over the world and enjoy the happy moment all together as a whole complete unity…why do u think the olympics was achieved…?it was brought up after the ww2 as a symbol of peace and happines and a pact was formed so that no country is allowed to take actions against another country…back to iran.. ahmadinejad is awarding each iranian players an amount of USD 60,000 for each game won…could this show that iran wants to conqour world cup as well..? suck on it..heheheh

“During the previous Olympic games, the Sudanese team was boo-ed very loudly to show protest for the atrocities in Darfur. That was NOT nice.”
I think you misunderstand the situation in Germany.
I don’t think anyone will boo.
The problem the German government is trying to solve is how to keep people from loudly applauding the Iranian team and, should the gorilla attend, Neo-Nazis from showing solidarity with the Iranian regime.
I myself appreciate the Iranian team for what they are: qualified because Israel was grouped among European teams in the pre-rounds. (It’s not the team’s fault, obviously.)
“why do u think the olympics was achieved…?it was brought up after the ww2 as a symbol of peace”
What?
“why do u think the olympics was achieved…?it was brought up after the ww2 as a symbol of peace”
WTFish???!!!
Andrew I think I should change the post’s title to “World Cup: Don’t Cheer The Iranian Team Too Loudly!”
Man, I had no idea it was going to be the opposite. Have you watched the movie Green Street Hooligans?? I think another problem will be dealing with angry drunk fans. England anyone??!! Hehe LOL… Ok my English mates, I kid I kid. That’s just another stereotype like the one about us Muslims being terrorists.
I expect people to be a bit more quiet for Iran than for other teams, but booing, no, I don’t think so. That means, I disagree with Andrew. And forget about the neo-nazis. If you visit Germany, you will see very clearly that wherever there is a neo-nazi demonstration, the number of people demonstrating against them is much higher by far.
Hooliganism might be a problem, but if so, that will most probably be the polish hooligans, as the problem isn’t handled that good there as in England or other western european countries. But don’t mix hooliganism with drinking too much; if you are drunk you won’t succeed in the fight!
I like Green Street Hooligans, btw. Frodo really developed.
Enjoy the World Cup. I will, for sure.
“That means, I disagree with Andrew.”
I hope you are right.
‘Chris from Munich’ - i hope you’re right. I just found out about the potential neo-nazi involvement myself, and it literally made me sick to think about it.
Update:
There was a neo-nazi demonstration today in Gelsenkirchen, with about 200 participants. 5000 people were demonstrating against them.
The Polish fans in Gelsenkirchen yesterday were fantastic, btw. No sign of hooliganism so far, all went well between Polish, Ecuadorian and German fans, it was a good party from what I’ve heard. I hope it will stay that way!
“I hope it will stay that way!”
Me too Chris. Thanx for the update =)
