Overthrow With Good Intentions

Looking at Sudan’s five decades history and all the coups that took place, I find something common in most of them. I think a great problem facing us the Sudanese people is controling the sometimes overwhelming anger that we feel deep inside of us as a result of the government’s crimes. It saddens me to say that almost every single Sudanese person I know would like to get rid of the current government out of anger, hatred and revenge. That is a a pattern that I see being repeated in our short history since independence. This is a wrong and dangerous attitude. If an overthrow occurs it cannot happen out of revenge and anger. It must happen out of a strong desire to lead the country and the Sudanese people as a whole towards peace and prosperity.

The rebels prove this point. I support them in principle ie. (a united democratic Sudan with equal treatment and prosperity for all). However I absolutely hate the disgusting and sickening way in which they have carried out their rebellion. The SLA who signed the peace agreement have now turned against their own people.

    That’s sad :(
    How’s this:

You can not obtain peace if someone is trying to kill the messenger of the peace?

I’m thinking about this one… Suppose there is a person/group that wants peace for ALL Sudanese with the ideals you described, but opponents wanting control for “their own people” keep using violence against that person/group.

How would the peace wishers have to react on that?

Firmly or Ghandi style. I’m afraid however that a scenario like that will turn out like another Iraq.
