Sudanese Refugees Detained In Israel

by Drima on May 24, 2006

A few days ago Pinktoes left this comment on my recent post I am Drima & I have a dream .

you know, just today i read an article in newsweek about a muslim man from sudan narrowly esacping the rampage of the janjaweed militiamen as they gunned down his family. he reached safely across the borders of egypt and he paid someone 50 bucks to smuggle him into Israel. He had nowehere else to run to, hoping to find a safe haven in israel, he was instead, detained and locked up. ironic isin’t it? israel was created after the diaspora of jews when millions of them were made homeless and into refugees and yet they lock up and turn away others.

I jokingly said:

Hey come to think about it… Why not spread false info in Darfur that Israelis are now taking in Darfurian refugees… Millions of Darfurians will go there and then a huge battle will start… Cool… It would be jihad of a different kind… Obviously some of the Darfuris would be smart enough to figure out a way to get through into Israel… They would all convert to Judaism and then Israel will have to accept them.I mean come on it’s the Jewish state isn’t it???

Well it seems that now some Israelis are actually standing up for the rights of the more than 200 Sudanese seeking refugee status (Arabic link) in Israel.

Good on you head of “Yad Fashim” for speaking up against the detention of those Darfuris but now comes the real headache.

If the Israelis free those Darfuris and give them refugee status, it will help improve their image and as a result may reduce the anti-Israeli sentiments in the region (ya right who am I kidding?) but at the same time they’ll probably end up with a million more Darfuris at their doorstep seeking refuge in the Jewish State and might end up turning it into the “Black Muslim State”. Continue leaving them to rot in jail and it will earn the Israelis more criticism. Yes? No?

Andrew Brehm left a good comment about it on the same previous post too.

Also consider that being locked up in an Israeli prison is likely a better life than these refugees had in Sudan. The point is that these refugees are safe, for the moment. Where else should Israel have put them?

I don’t know… I mean hey… according to a previous poll, the majority of Israelis wanted the government to encourage the Arabs to leave the country. Why would the Israelis want to accept refugees from Darfur? They already have enough problems to deal with. Whether it’s ironic those Darfuris are in jail or not is not really up for me to decide but Pinktoes did have a point in his comment. At least now someone in Israel has a different opinion and is standing up to voice.

Jews, Darfuris are comin at ya so I would love to hear what you have to say about this. Please do drop your comments.

“..but Pinktoes did have a point in his comment.”

why does it have to be a ‘he’? would my comment be less credible and more inadequate if i was a woman? which is likely because what guy would refer to their toes being pink?

oh and btw, u know me.

.pinktoes.

Hmmm… I was under the impression that most Fur were Christians? Personally, I am all for taking them in and giving them ‘fugee status if they are willing to swear fealty to Israel - or at least swear to uphold its laws and not try to undermine it.

Israel can easily accomodate a sizeable minority of non-hostile Fur… hey, they can settle in the Negev or Galil, there’s plenty of space there.

And in the meanwhile… free boarding, free food, free smokes, free TV, free clothing - sounds better than being slaughtered by the Janjaweed :)
Peace out

“if they are willing to swear fealty to Israel - or at least swear to uphold its laws and not try to undermine it.”

I feel you there… You wouldn’t want another terrorist organization starting problems… Be carefull though it might be a conspiracy to infiltrate Israel and destroy it lol =p

However on a more serious note… You do realize accepting them will mean giving hope to other Darfurians and inspiring them to make the long trip to Israel… How do you think Israel will respond then?

5 Andrew Brehm 05.24.06 at 9:28 am

“I don’t know… I mean hey… according to a previous poll, the majority of Israelis wanted the government to encourage the Arabs to leave the country.”

Yes, I heard about that. I am against ancouraging anybody to leave. An Arab loyal to Israel is just as good as a Jew.

(It’s another matter if an Israeli-Arab is found to conspire against Israel. I have no problem with Israel taking away his citizenship under such circumstances.)

Note that most Israelis would have understood “Arabs” not to refer to Bedouins and Druze, I am sure. Nobody in Israel wants the Druze to leave and the Bedouins get along well with the Jews, so I understand.

“You do realize accepting them will mean giving hope to other Darfurians and inspiring them to make the long trip to Israel… How do you think Israel will respond then?”

Good point.

Perhaps the EU should take over from Israel. We could use a few more blacks here. And we could certainly use a demographics change in many of our Muslim communities!

Drima -

Israel can easily accommodate, say, 60K Fur without it being a real risk. Such an operation would create a precedent for the world (taking in ‘fugees that sum up as 1% of population in one go), killing two birds with one stone;

Israel’s much-smeared public image would be somewhat cleared (although I am sure that the Islamic world will believe it’s a conspiracy to use the Fur as a food source or something :);

And the Europeans and Americans can then be easily shamed into both accepting ‘fugees and stopping this horror. Hey - we’re Jews, we’re the Ascended Grandmasters of Guilt, it’ll work :)
This course of action is, unfortunately, unrealistic: the Israeli government is (arguably correctly) paranoid about keeping Isral Jewish, and would not want to bend the demographic stick any more than absolutely necessary.

Regarding encouraging Arabs to leave Israel - most Israelis find it difficult to believe that Israeli Arabs are loyal to the state, given the non-stop attempts by Arab MKs to destroy Israel and the openly anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli attitude of some very visible Israeli Arabs.

There is also the problem of Muslim Arab villagers ignoring Israeli law and having much higher percentage of criminals than Jewish or Christian citizens. I grew up between two villages - one Arab and one Bedouin - that were perpetually at war with each other. And I mean WAR - hand grenades, machineguns, massive hand-to-hand battles… the police was simply powerless to do anything, because trying to intervene means you become a third side in the war, and the cops are simply not strong enough for that. This sort of thing kind of makes one feel unsafe around Arabs, especially given the suicide bombers and the fact that a lot of these were aided by Israeli Arabs.

And yes, when Israelis say Arabs they don’t mean Druze, or Bedouins, or Circassians… practically all the Israeli Jews have served in the Army, and after you have fought and bled together with Druze and Bedouin and Circassian for your country, you can’t help but realize that you’re on the same side.

And as for discerning the loyalty of Arab citizens… it’s kind of difficult. How would you go about it? It is obvious that the much-discussed “transfer” is not going to happen - it’s too immoral and too complicated and too many are opposed to it -, but the problem of loyalty will have to be solved.

BTW, I am yet to meet a Circassian or a Druze who wasn’t absolutely cool with me, and I know great many of both. Can’t say the same for Bedouins - I know a few who are absolute shits. But then again, they are both more numerous and most of the ones I know belong to a clan of criminals :)

BTW… it’s Yad va-Shem. The Holocaust memorial organization. Not Yad Fashem :)
Pray forgive my anality :)

Hey Raccoon, thanx for your detailed answer. It defintely helps understand things better.

“Hey Raccoon, thanx for your detailed answer. It defintely helps understand things better.”

Indeed and very good. Since I’m not Israeli, I can only ever speculate based on my knowledge of Israelis.

And may I add that this blog is quickly becoming the major focus of my commenting. Good work Drima!

I’m afraid I can’t see the relevance. Are you saying that the Darfuris fled to Israel because they believe Israelis hate Arabs or Muslims?

Or were you simply afraid that the discussion might not portray Israel as the bad guy?

12 Andrew Brehm 05.26.06 at 3:27 am

“TheRaccoon said…”

I wonder, are you the same raccoon who posts over at onearabworld.com?

13 Drima 05.26.06 at 3:53 am

I guess the link was “dropped” in because the discussion contained the word “Israel”. Interesting articles indeed but as Andrew pointed out… they’re out of topic.

And Andrew thanx for the support and your previous comments. I’m happy people are finding my humble blog interesting.

14 Drima 05.27.06 at 12:43 am

BTW anonymous… I’ll write an article soon where I portray Israel as the “bad” guy… Drop by then and drop all the comments you would like…

15 Andrew Brehm 05.27.06 at 5:20 am

“I’ll write an article soon where I portray Israel as the “bad” guy.”

Looking forward to it.

BTW your main page doesn’t work, at least for me and now (27 May, 13:17 GMT).

Wait so let me get this one straight. I’m not sure I’m hearing you correctly? I know this -

1) There is a Genocide in Sudan
2) The perpetrators are Sudanese Muslims and the gov’t.
3) The victims were at first Southern Black Xtians and animists.
4) Now the victims are African Muslims in Darfur.
5) I know that usually everything in the Muslim world is usually either directly linked to -or- caused by -using- various degrees of separation - to or exemplifying the “hypocrisy” of the tiny state of Israel…

OK, so now that I know that….

Let’s add the rest up bcs this still does not make full sense to me?????

OK -

There is this HUMUNGOUS place called the Middle East not to mention Africa. And in this HUMUMNGOUS place these Sudanese Muslims want to go (for some friggin reason???? trying to figure it out) to this tiny Jewish majority country, the size of Rhode Island?

I can’t figure this one out?
Not the Muslim dominated Gaza Strip?
How about Ramallah?
How about Egypt?
How about Tunisia?
How about Morocco?
How about the Muslim sanctuary of Saudi Arabia?
Wait, how about the Democratic Arabist EU?

Of all the places they wanted to go to Israel?

Dam, they must be clueless? Don’t they know about those big bad “fascist” Jews, I mean Zionazis, in Israel?

What the F were they thinking?
I mean don’t they know the hospitality of their fellow Muslims in every other area of the Middle East would be preferrable?

Especially to those fascists at “Yad Fashim”….

Where’s Tariq Ramadan to the rescue when you need him?

This shit is sooooo perplexing?

Mike

18 Scorekeeper 05.29.06 at 12:57 pm

I know that because Israel is a Jewish sanctuary state that that must have something to do with in some way so please explain it to me.

Thanks. Waiting eagerly your reply.

Mike

“Of all the places they wanted to go to Israel?”

Mike, I wish I can answer your question and explain everything fully but guess what… I myself am wondering the SAME exact shit… Out of all places ISRAEL?? I have no idea why Israel… That’s why when I read the news I was laughin to myself… I was like WHAAAT?!?! ISRAEL??!!

PS: Darfur is not a genocide. That’s a big misconception. Read my previous posts from way before…

20 Andrew Brehm 05.30.06 at 2:23 am

“Mike, I wish I can answer your question and explain everything fully but guess what… I myself am wondering the SAME exact shit… Out of all places ISRAEL?? I have no idea why Israel… That’s why when I read the news I was laughin to myself… I was like WHAAAT?!?! ISRAEL??!!”

I think at some point people consider their chances.

If authorities tell you that Israel is evil, AND the same authorities kill you; how evil can Israel be?

It’s also possible that many people in the Arab world do not believe that Israel is evil, but are afraid (or don’t see the need) to say anything.

It’s similar in Europe where everybody will tell you that America is warline and has no culture and Europe is so much better, yet everybody buys American products and millions try to emigrate to America.

There is a difference between what people believe and what people believe they believe. Money is usually a good way to find out. You will find more people who want to protect the environment than people that are willing to waste less energy.

And when was the last time a mullah or Muslim preacher has sent their own children into martyrdom?

21 TheRaccoon 05.30.06 at 5:06 am

“There is a difference between what people believe and what people believe they believe” - well put!

22 Drima 05.30.06 at 12:34 pm

“And when was the last time a mullah or Muslim preacher has sent their own children into martyrdom?”

That’s a very deep and important question that deserves a detailed answer… I’m already on it and I think the answer might end up being “none” or “very few”…

and you’re right:

“If authorities tell you that Israel is evil, AND the same authorities kill you; how evil can Israel be?”

Sometimes the safest place is in the hands of the “enemy” where you’re own people “good” can’t reach you…

If a member of the mafia was going to get killed by the mafia for screwing up an assignment, the safest place for him would probably be to hide in a police station…

Drima -

You’re going to “try and figure it out”? LOL!! Oh my g-d!!
Yeah figure it out and then get back to me on that one.

Maybe you could go interview all the Sinai Bedouins who friggin luvvvvvvvv the big bad Israeli Joos oops (I mean Zionists - that’s more PC) and hate the Egyptians and Palestinians.

Andrew Brehm pointed out the obvious. And that is that people know - even in Muslim dominated states - where the media incessantly demonizes the “boogey man Joooos” and “Zionazis” that Israel is a fair decent country and at the least 100000x better and more bleeding heart than any Arab or Muslim state apparently (wait hold on for this one!!)
for Muslims.

Maybe the Zionists dominating the world media and everything else though somehow implanted that idea in their minds with the Zionist Laser Rays?
http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15165&only

You know about those Zionist Laser Rays? man they can do some amazing shit!

Mike

24 Drima 05.31.06 at 2:08 am

“Zionist Laser Rays”

yup I heard about it… Retarded conspiracy theories never stop…
