Al Turabi Is a Chameleon

As time passes by this old man gets weirder by the day. A number of years ago during a visit to Canada, one Sudanese black belt Karate dude kick smacked Turabi on the head. I think that nasty hit is finally bringing the effect it was supposed to have. Turabi condemned the peace deal saying it wasn’t in the interest of the Darfuris. Sure! Since when did Turabi care about anything besides himself?
For those of you who don’t know much about Turabi, let me tell you this… He is the one person mostly responsible for all the problems Sudanese suffer from today. He’s extremely smart, charismatic, manipulative and most importantly wicked!
I think the best decision Omar El-Bashir ever made was to put him on house arrest and keep him under control. Believe me folks, if Turabi was still in the picture no peace would have been possible with the south or now with the west.
We have a very famous saying in Sudan… “politicians are chameleons”… A chameleon changes its color very efficiently and effectively everytime it is in a different environment… so yes you get the idea.

Strange…. I read him on Memri….
“Women Should Cover Chest, Not Face; Women Can Be Imams, Political Leaders; No Punishment for Drinking Alcohol at Home”

Now, this is music to my liberal western ears, and now ur telling me he’s a total crook ?
Don’t s’pose these wievs are very popular round where u are ?
You’re right halalhippie he has been uttering some things which I’m in agreement with… I mean hey dude… I’m a liberal myself and I like someone daring to say such things… But here’s the thing regardless of being conservative or liberal a person can still be wicked and evil… The reason Turabi is saying all these things is because he wants attention… What better way to bring it than by talking about controversial things… This whole recent fiasco is just to bring attention to himself and to also look good to the West… So far he’s been extremely successfull and that proves how freaking smart and wicked he is… Read up about his past and you’ll know why I don’t like him… If you didn’t know… He was the main person responsible for bringing Osama bin Laden into Sudan and harboring him… He was responsible for the death and execution of many prominent thinkers in Sudan… Believe me read his past and you’ll know… The guy is wicked and twisted but one thing is for sure and it is that he’s freaking freaking smart
I’ll take ur word on him…but it’s frustrating. A Muslim cleric who says what the West wanna hear (!) Of course he’ll get slandered by conservatives. You never know who to support.
I so want the Muslim world to catch up w/the rest of the world, like basic human rights, and a decent standard of living, I don’t see why you can’t be as religious as you want to at the same time.
[…] I think the White House is starting to realize that the policy it has been pursuing (after the Abuja agreement) was doing more bad than good. I’ve argued here many times on why I think UN troops are a bad idea that will make Darfur a bigger disaster than it already is. If the White House does indeed follow what Natsios announced, it will be doing itself and us Sudanese a major favor. Sooner or later this had to happen. It’s time for America and Sudan to mend relations. America is only hurting itself. Asian corporations and many European ones have been investing billions of dollars in Sudan and in the process reaping back tons of profits. America is missing out big time especially in the oil sector. Sudan badly needs the American sanctions to be lifted. Believe me the NCP will have no problem allowing in American companies. Hell, they want American companies to come. They want American investment. I’m very very optimistic that it’s easy to repair the damaged relations. After the Shifa factory bombing, relations took a dive but then they recovered again. Moreover America played a key role in north-south peace agreement. It can do the same in the case of Darfur but it must make changes to the current policy of confrontation. No to confrontation, yes to cooperation. America can do more to bolster the AU force already present in Darfur. American investment can also make the NCP more “swayable” in the long term run. Moreover the SPLM can be strengthened in order to keep a better balance of power. As long as the SPLM exists and gets strengthened, the NCP won’t be able to easily do what it wants to do. Moreover the transition towards democracy can move faster. Thanks to the SPLM, many of us Muslims in the north have been able to enjoy more freedoms after the peace agreement. Another thing I should highlight is the best decision Omar al-Bashir ever made. He really deserves a big hug for that decision. The decision? Kicking Turabi out of government and putting him on house arrest. If he took over, we could be witnessing a Saudi Talibani stlyle government (PS: don’t get fooled by Turabi’s latest “liberal” fatwas. They’re nothing but attention seeking rants and probably even Taqiya. He’s extremely smart and he cannot be trusted. In Sudan many people call him a chameleon. Remember this is the same guy who welcomed Bin Laden with wide open arms). This Drima is eagerly waiting to hear about the alternatives the White House has in mind. […]
