The Sudanese president is going to visit Iran. The timing of this visit is interesting indeed. I think it’s meant to show solidarity.

“I think it’s meant to show solidarity.”
Yes, I’m afraid that is likely.
Quite apart from the moral issue (should one show solidarity with a country that wants to wipe another country off the map) I think the Sudanese government should have learned that going against the US is not in Sudan’s best interests.
Do the Sudanese people want their government to take sides in a global conflict? Do they believe that they take the right side? Is it in the interest of the Sudanese people that Sudan takes sides and takes Iran’s and Syria’s side?
And if it is in the Sudanese Muslims’ interest (perhaps they are so inclined), I doubt it is in the Sudanese Christians’ or other non-Muslims’ interests. Sudan is becoming involved in a conflict its people have nothing to do with.
And Sudan presumably doesn’t need another conflict.
Whether Sudan sides with Iran or doesn’t, it will still be considered by the US to be part of the Axis of Evil. So this recent move doesn’t realy make much difference. I think it’s just meant to say “hey check it out I got back up now incase you mess with me muahaha! not any back up though but NUCLEAR back up” =p …
Believe me when I say this, even though many Sudanese believe that America wants to sort of control the country with a puppet government in order to take over the massive resources we have, non of them are inclined to have another conflict. Sudanese people both Muslim and non-Muslim have reached a point where they just want to live in peace and prosperity.
“Sudan is becoming involved in a conflict its people have nothing to do with.”
Oh yes yes yes
I am not sure but I think many Sudanese are happy about the fact Iran is becoming a nuclear power but I don’t believe the majority want the weapons to be used. They realize the devastation that such an attack can cause in the region.
“it will still be considered by the US to be part of the Axis of Evil.”
It is easy not to be considered part of the Axis of Evil.
The US are desperate for allies, especially Arab allies. Just say something in support of them, and stay away from Iran and Syria, and you won’t have any trouble whatsoever.
Remember that Iraq did not happen overnight. It took Saddam Hussein 25 years to get the US angry enough to invade. And Iraq shot at US and British aircraft long before the invasion. That was an act of war.
Sudan has done none of these things. You should be fine, if only you can manage to stay away from US enemies like Iran. Sudan has nothing to gain from supporting them. NOTHING.
Instead contacts with international outlaw Iran will simply make your own internal problems worse. Look what its ties to Iran did to Lebanon! Look what it does to Iraq. Look at what Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have to say about Iran.
What’s the point of having relations with a country that causes problems for every country that works with it?
I agree but the Sudanese and Iranian government share the same ideologies. The US to them is an enemy and must always be until it stops backing up Israel.
In the Arab world we have a saying “The US is Israel and Israel is the US”.
Call it blind hate if you want.
“The US to them is an enemy and must always be until it stops backing up Israel.”
And the US won’t stop backing up Israel until the Arab world has changed its attitude towards minorities. At the moment somebody has to protect Jews and Kurds etc..
Do Arabs realise that the US won’t deliver the Jews?
“Do Arabs realise that the US won’t deliver the Jews?”
With most Arabs it’s all pure stubborness…
