Ethiopia: Quran Torn, Thrown Into Toilets

by Drima on April 15, 2006

Anger is spreading and growing in Ethiopian universities as pages torn from the Quran were found inside toilet bowls in the campus of Adis Ababa University (Arabic Link). This is completely wrong. No book of ANY religion be it Torah, Bible or Quran should be abused in this sick way. I find it to be a worrying development. Tensions are already running high in Egypt after the church stabbings incidents and now this is happening in Ethiopia. Students are demanding “justice”. The question now is this, how are you going to find out for sure who did it? The religious make up of Ethiopia is as follows:

Muslim 45%-50%, Ethiopian Orthodox 35%-40%, animist 12%, other 3%-8%

So as you notice, the risk of violence between Muslims and Christians is quite high. I’m not saying a Christian is responsible. All I’m saying is I’m afraid that this will end up being the scenario. Let’s hope things stabalize in Egypt and Ethiopia and that they don’t get worse. Let’s also hope this doesn’t inspire violent riots too. The anger is legitimate but must be expressed without violence.

The violence between Muslims and Christians always seem to be one way. The last 2 reports of Koran desecration turned out to be fake with the intention of purposefully trying to stir up anger amongst the Mulsims. Also with the Mohammed cartoons where the Danish Imam took 3 fake Mohammed cartoons to the Middle East that were worse than the ones that they Danes published, in order to stir up anger amongst Muslims. Seems to me that certain people in the Muslim world want to see things get out of hand and we all know that it doesn’t take much to turn a Muslim mob into a murderous frenzy.

As far as I’m concerned I’m not sure if the past 2 reports are fake as you say but if you insist please provide me with a link about them.

Regarding those certain Muslims who want things to get out of hand… It’s only natural that those who resort to violence as a means to end conflict to try and incite others to join in with them too. It’s a sad situation realy but I’m not sure if the Ethiopian incidents are fake. Time will tell. But hey regardless of them being fake or not let’s hope no bloodshed occurs… Anyways right now we’ve all got bigger things to worry about IRANIAN NUKES !

SudaneseThinker’, if you type in fake koran desecration’ in Google you’ll might find some matches.
Iranian Nukes might be bigger things to worry about but we are in this situation because smaller things have gone unauestioned in the past.

I googled it and found a lot of “clashing” articles on the matter. It is possible some Muslims made it up to stir up anger but the report was released by an American news agency and then later retracted. It just smells a little fishy to me.

Quite easy if there is a will to investogate. Take the finger prints and match against the alleged suspects. There will be nothing hidden from the society. I think the perputuators will be knwn. It is up to the government to investigate and bring them to justice.
